This will help a child to develop reading habits, and increase their vocabulary and comprehension skills. It is important to make sure to have a variety of age-appropriate books and materials available for them to choose from. Additionally, trying to make reading a fun and enjoyable activity by creating a comfortable reading space and encouraging children to share their thoughts and opinions about what they have read, can provide a confidence boost. 

2. Use repetition

Making the child read the same passage multiple times will strengthen the grip over newly learned vocabulary.  This will help them to build fluency and automaticity. As they become more familiar with the text, they will be able to read more smoothly and quickly. Start with shorter passages and gradually increase the length as they improve.

Utilizing technology such as reading fluency apps and games to provide interactive and engaging ways to improve reading fluency is the smart way to help children. These tools can help with decoding, word recognition, and comprehension. Many of these apps include interactive games, quizzes, and assessments to help track progress and identify areas for improvement.

4. Practice reading aloud

Children can be asked to read aloud to a family member. This will help them to improve their pronunciation, intonation, and expression. This will also encourage them to use different voices and emotions when reading to make the story come alive. Breaking down longer texts into smaller chunks can have a child focus on reading one chunk at a time before moving on to the next. This will provide them with a sounding board to practice reading with and give them feedback on their fluency and comprehension. Even parents can read with their children and discuss the story, ask questions, and make connections. This can help children to better understand what they are reading.

There are many tools and resources available to help improve reading fluency at home. Some options include:

1. Online resources: There are many free online resources available such as reading games, interactive stories, and e-books that can help improve fluency. Websites such as Reading Eggs, Starfall, and Learning A-Z provide a fun and interactive way for children to improve their reading skills.

2. Audiobooks: Listening to audiobooks can help children improve their fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Many libraries have online resources for audiobooks and e-books. Audiobooks also have a lot of benefits for kids who have learning disabilities. 

3. Flashcards: Flashcards can be a helpful tool for children to learn sight words. Parents can make flashcards with words from a child’s reading materials and have them practice reading them.

4. Hiring a tutor: If a child is struggling with reading fluency, hiring a tutor can be a good option. Tutors can provide personalized instruction and work on specific areas of difficulty.

5. Watching videos: Content for children is now being produced with a focus on expanding vocabulary and understanding of language. With subtitles and pronunciation together, children can definitely learn a lot about words and phrases.

Today I am going to share how you too can make a DIY tangram with your kid. But first, let me tell you what tangrams actually are. 

A tangram belongs to the category of dissection puzzles. People believe it originated in China in the late 18th century. The set comprises seven geometrical shapes that can be arranged on a flat surface to form countless designs. The two-dimensional shapes that make a tangram are:

• 2 Large triangles
• 1 Medium triangle
• 2 Small triangles
• 1 Square
• 1 Parallelogram

Tangrams are not just great for playing. Children can reap several benefits by creating their own designs and solving tangram puzzles. The game can help improve your child’s problem-solving, visual-spatial, spatial rotation, and critical thinking skills. It encourages kids to use their imagination and creativity and leads them to a road to self-discovery where they can explore new ideas and make something different. 

So, without further ado, let me show you how you and your child can make a tangram and have some fun together!

How to make a tangram using paper?

Things you’ll need – 

• A piece of paper
• Few sketch pens/ markers
• A pair of scissors
• A pencil
• A ruler

Steps to follow – 

• Begin by taking any piece of paper.
• As you need to make a square out of it, fold it as shown in pic 2, followed by making a fold as displayed in pic.
• Make sure you align the borders of the paper perfectly.

• Open the folds to reveal the square. Use a pair of scissors to cut the extra part, and there you have a perfect square to work on.
• Now cut the square along the line of the fold to get two triangles, as shown in the next step.

• Fold one of the triangles, carefully aligning all the borders, and cut it through the middle as shown in pic 7.
• The two triangles you now obtained are your 2 large triangles of the tangram.

• Now take the other triangle (pic 9) and fold it by bringing down the top tip to the center of the opposite side.
• Press it to form a nice crease.
• You can even use a pencil and ruler to mark the crease (pic 11), so it helps you or your kid identify where to cut exactly.
• Next, cut along the marked line to get two distinct pieces, as shown below.

• The triangle you see in pic 13 is the medium triangle of the tangram set. Set it aside and work with the isosceles trapezoid as marked in pic 13.
• Fold it to make a crease in the center.
• Mark it with a pencil and cut it to obtain two pieces (pic 17).

• Use the left piece (pic 18) to make a square and a small triangle.
• Fold it as shown in pic 19.
• Mark the crease, and make a cut on the line to obtain one small triangle and square of the tangram set.

• Now use the right piece of the trapezoid and fold the lower left corner while aligning it to the upper right corner.
• Open the fold and cut the fold to get your last two pieces of tangrams – one small triangle and a parallelogram.

• And there you have it! A tangram with its seven geometrical shapes. Now let your kid decorate it as per their wish. My little one chose to color them in bright colors using sketch pens or markers. Here’s how it turned out in the end –

In this post, find below a step-by-step guide to writing up an effective IEP. But, before that, let us know why you need an IEP in the first place, and what its benefits are. Scroll down to learn more!

What is IEP?

IEP, or Individual Education Plans, or Individualized Education Program, is exclusively meant for children identified with a specific disability (such as learning disabilities, autism, cognitive problem, hearing/speech disabilities, etc.) and attending educational institutions at the elementary or secondary level. An IEP consists of a few things. These are:

• Progress of the child with a disability in the general curriculum education process

• Availability of specialized services to the child in the education institution

• Availability of the educational accommodations that a child must receive

• Academic performance of the child at present

• Setting specific and measurable goals for the child to achieve regarding education

How to write an effective IEP?

A considerable number of steps need to be followed in order to ensure everything that is crucial for a child as per the needs is added to the plan. Here is a step-by-step guide for preparing an effective IEP.

1. Developing the team of collaborators

An IEP development is successful only when the right people contribute to it. So, when you set to develop one for your student or your child, you need to consider whom you will take within your team. Those who must be in the team are- the student, their family, teachers, and specialists. You may consider not including the child if they have not reached 16 years. But we would recommend you not to do so. After all, a child needs to know what is being planned for them. As the child grows, you need to give them more responsibilities.

You need to include the family as they are the ones who would support the child at home. Everyone should be on the list, from parents to siblings, for they know the child best.

Also, communication between the school and the family is essential, mainly when the child is promoted to a new class. So, when you plan an IEP, you must include, if possible, all the teachers of the child’s course (instead of only the special needs teacher or the classroom teacher).

As for specialists, your IEP plan should have room for speech therapists, education specialists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, etc.

2. Reviewing the child’s educational progress so far

You need to collect and review the child’s progress report, at least from the last session. These reports would help you recognize what the child has already achieved; you may find that the child has mastered some achievements beyond those years and consider those as the child’s strengths. Again, these reports will help you identify what the child still needs to achieve, and you can view those as their areas of improvement. Now, you can move on to the next step of the process.

3. Setting goals for the child/learner

From the knowledge earned from reviewing the previous year’s performance of the child, you now know what goals you need to include in the plan. You must make sure that these goals are SMART (i.e., Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound), small, devoid of complicated jargon, and quite ambitious. If the children are subjected to higher set goals, it will be easier to minimize the gap with other mainstream students in the class.

For preparing the goals, it is important that you take in suggestions and opinions from the family and the child also. This way, you can make sure that the goals you include are enjoyable. It will be more successful also.

4. Consulting the goals with the other teachers and members

Once you think your IEP goals are set, you have to send that to the other team members, especially the other teachers on board. With years of experience and expertise, they would know which goals need more specificity, whether any goal needs to be eliminated, what you can include further, etc. This improves the IEP plan and makes it more efficient before you finally write it off.

5. Including accommodations and modifications as a part of the learning process

According to the International Dyslexia Association, the term ‘accommodations’ refer to making adjustments to the present situation or set-up so that a child can achieve their targets. For example, while everyone else in the class reads from books, you can offer audio-text provision to the special need child. So, the IEP plan should include these accommodation provisions for the children.

As for modifications, you need to shape the assignments and set the expectations in a modified way. For example, instead of giving prime and composite numbers assignments, you can choose only prime to begin with.

6. Preparing a draft IEP

By now, you will have a clear notion of your to-dos. Next, you need to put those on paper and prepare a draft. You can send the draft to the parents if you are a teacher. Or, if you are a parent, you can send it to the teachers or other IEP team members for a final check and ask for their input, if any.

7. Comparing the present draft with that of the previous year

In this step, you need to compare how different or upgraded the IEP of this year is from the earlier years.

8. Preparing the final copy for circulation

After you revise the draft and get all the required inputs from the experts, it is time to write it down finally. Here again, you have to keep in mind that the IEP plan should be focused on the child and not on the presentation or the looks of the document. Instead of decorating it with colorful borders, highlighting the heading, etc., emphasize the main points, mark them in bold, and maintain a legible font size and style.

9. Updating the IEP plan from time to time

PLAAFP, or Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance, is utterly important. You can recognize the child’s current performance, how far they have progressed regarding developmental areas, etc. This part of the IEP gives the parents and teachers a clear idea of the child’s present capabilities or, in other words, strengths. Keeping the progress in mind, you can modify the current IEP plan and incorporate new goals as you feel necessary.

10. Other guidelines

Here are a few other things to keep in mind while writing an effective IEP:

• Include social goals in the IEP. Such goals include positive interaction with peers, conflict resolution, etc.

• Sometimes, parents might wish to bring an advocate to the IEP meetings. As a teacher, you need to prepare the IEP so that there are no loopholes.

• Avoid using words that the child or their parents and teachers might find judgmental, such as ‘enthusiastic,’ ‘appropriate,’ etc.

Why is it important that you have an effective IEP?

Here are a few benefits if you are wondering why you need to put so much effort into writing an IEP.

• People from various fields join the team to develop an IEP collaboratively. After reaching the age of 16, the child can also join the development team. This collaborative process makes it easy to understand the learning process a child must engage in.

• As you develop small, specific, and measurable goals for the students, it becomes easy for you and the learners to identify the progress towards the goals.

• An effective IEP helps you clearly understand the child’s strengths and weaknesses in academics, extracurricular activities, etc. You can also gauge the child’s socio-emotional status and family structure through the IEP, that might contribute to their success.

The Visual part of this term, according to Fleming, refers to those who are better able to retain information when they use graphs, charts, hierarchies, flashcards, presentations, symbols, videos, illustrations, and other things that teachers use to represent words (in place of words). 

Unlike standard ways of learning, visual learning is different as it helps students understand and grasp matters by associating ideas, words, and concepts with images, graphics, charts, and mind maps. The ideology behind enhanced learning and concept retention skills comes via visuals wrapped in anything that can be seen, observed, analyzed, and remembered that mostly including images or videos.

Visual learning helps in developing many distinctive aspects like problem-solving, decision-making, and regressing better understanding skills. When an individual is able to visually imagine a concept, a thought, a talk, or an outcome – it leads to enhanced decision-making skills with perspective-building that helps in evaluating the aftermath of a judgment.

Color-code helps in setting up themes in your notes. This will help in the gathering of information at a glance. For example, color code the dates with the events when studying history. Or, when studying science, color code the different mechanisms with their executions.

However, there are multiple ways in which color coding can be done. For example:

• Making use of highlighters: Use highlighters to mark a sentence or something that seems important. This will help you remember noteworthy points. When revising, also use a highlighter to mark what you know and what you got wrong, which will be helpful during exams, as you would remember what answers you got wrong previously. This will stop you from making the same mistakes again.

• Using differently colored sticky notes

When textual information is vast, write important pointers on different colored sticky notes. The different colors of the notes will help you segregate the type of information, and the pointers will make sure that you don’t spend too much time reading the entire text matter.

• Making notes with different colored pens

Not only is using differently colored pens fun, but it also helps retain the information you read. For example, write the headings in a bright color, followed by the content in a different color. As a visual learner, this will help you gather the important headings easily if you remember the brightly colored ink of the pens

2. Organizing notes

Unorganized notes might not ignite that same excitement to read since you learn using visual cues. Create clear, neat tabs and rewrite your notes to make them more organized. Leave spaces to differentiate between points, as too much information in a small space is not visually pleasing. Also as they say, “the more you write the better you learn”, is a fact that rings true in this situation.

3. Making use of photos and pictures

As the famous saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words” it is still true when it comes to learning and understanding study material. For example, it is easier to understand the climatic conditions of a country or the nature of a volcano through pictures and photos than trying to imagine it by only reading the text.

4. Making use of diagrams

Visual representations of information might help in solidifying a complex or an abstract topic. For example, when studying diagrams, it is elemental to grasp a process between the occurrences of the text that are in close relation to steps 1 and step 2.

5. Making use of flashcards

Flashcards are small note cards that are often used to test and improve memory through repeated information retrieval. Typically, flashcards are two-sided, with a prompt on one side and information regarding the prompt on the other side. Retaining certain information from the flashcards becomes easy with repeated trials. Making it a fun activity to involve in.

6. Watching videos of the topic

When learning from a credible and reliable source, watching videos that add value to your subjective understanding gives you a well-rounded view of topics. Observe that it is always easier to retain a movie scene-by-scene instead of recalling the chapters of a fictional book with no pictures. 

7. Organizing information in the form of charts and tables

Remember the brightly colored chart papers on the walls of your school? This is a great study tip for those who learn visually. It is much easier to understand information when it has been organized into charts and tables than trying to understand the same information from a paragraph in the textbook. 

8. Making use of mind maps

Mind maps or concept maps encourage you to connect new and current knowledge. This is because you add fresh ideas centered on a central theme (your existing knowledge). This improves your comprehension and understanding of the topic(s) you’re involved in. 

9. Making use of concept maps

A concept map is strategically a diagram that shows a relationship between ideas. These can be used in the form of tables, flow charts, pie charts, timelines, etc. Concept mapping particularly helps in logically organizing material. They allow quick interpretation and grasping of concepts for learners. Such mind maps are based on concepts that may concern figures like ovals, circles, and boxes– all collectively known as nodes. 

10. Drawing or doodling for a better understanding of topics

To pursue this step, you just need a pencil and a sheet to draw illustrations, figures, and diagrams that accompany the material you’re trying to learn. Even if you’re not the most artistic person in the room- the concept of drawing and doodling will help you learn the text faster and easier.

11. Using symbols for easy understanding and depiction of information

Using symbols while taking and making notes is useful as it saves time. A person who learns visually will be able to retain and remember a symbol representing certain words than the words themselves in their original form. 

12. Using Mnemonics

Mnemonic techniques are instructional strategies designed for students using memory methods to learn concepts better. The concept imbibes visual and acoustic cues to help one retain lessons more effectively. The most common understanding of mnemonic techniques concerns concepts like rhyming words, acronyms, and keywords.

13. Making posters 

Posters act as a stimulus for learning in students. It motivates one in focusing better which results in a better understanding of the text. As visual learners thrive when visual aids are interwoven into the studying material, poster making allows learners to organize and associate information in a way that it is retained and memorized more comprehensively. 

14. Using infographics

Infographics are brief and summarized versions of the text in a picture that are more data-driven. They are a great tool that reinforces visual learning extensively. Because they incorporate images to highlight, explain, or improve text-based information; infographics are of utmost importance in educational settings. They catch learners’ attention, deliver information, and enhance the grasping capacity of an individual.

15. Making use of whiteboards and smartboards

Whiteboards and smartboards allow learners to interact and create visual content themselves. For example, drawing and writing on the board lead to a better understanding of concepts and material. Also, it is a fun activity that lets one feel confident about their appearance, and ideas and gives them the power of representation in front of others. 

16. Making use of educational websites

Visual learners enjoy learning with visual explanations. And educational websites provide exactly this and much more to their consumers through explanatory videos, and historical lessons that concern the concept of what, when, how, why, where, and when. In addition, with the increasing technology, course material is being converted into electronic mediums where learners can watch videos on topics, solve quizzes and increase their knowledge base.

17. Reading books

Books tend to contain different shapes and forms, including diagrams, graphs, and pictures which appeal to people who are visual learners. Research shows that reading books encourage high-order thinking skills. It is believed that those who read more have better cognitive memory that lets them remember things/ texts by sight. Through books, one can picture what is in their head as these methods are primarily scripted in the form of images, cartoons, paintings, graphics, and posters in the book.

Tutoring business- Let’s see what is it all about

Teaching has been considered as one of the noble professions of all as tutors are responsible for building the blocks of tomorrow through their knowledge and teaching skills. Therefore, tutoring can be a lucrative business with low upfront costs and flexible work schedules.

This starts with the freedom of choosing a venue, as per one’s likeness and preference. It could be at a student’s residence, at the tutor’s house or at a location specified for similar purposes like a library. While tutoring is something that a university student might venture into to make ends meet, beginning a tutoring business is different and requires a specific skill set.

Running a business as opposed to working for someone else can have its own downsides and upsides, like 

Upsides

• Flexible hours
• Opportunity for growth and expansion
• Being your own boss allows you to be creative and accommodative

Downsides

• Marketing the business can be expensive
• Students are temporary assets. This leads to instability and slow growth of the business.
• Professional life might overlap with personal life

People with dyslexia and tutoring business- Points to consider

Technology has made life easy and simplified our approaches to anything that previously needed physical involvement, like owning thousands of books on our phones that would otherwise require rooms of libraries. Similar is the case for individuals with dyslexia who aspire to be educators.

Dyslexia causes difficulties with verbal memory, verbal processing speed, and sometimes coordination and has no link to an individual’s intelligence. However, an individual with dyslexia does not necessarily have lower IQ levels.

Being a tutor with dyslexia provides an individual with personal insight and motivation to be more attentive in the classroom and sensitive to students with difficulties. Furthermore, it gives the tutors the chance to show that even with learning disabilities like dyslexia, it is possible to imagine, create and live a life of confidence and self-esteem. Notably, having dyslexia does pose challenges to the profession one chooses.

3. Organizing lesson plans 

Dyslexic trainee teachers felt difficulty in organizing activities and lesson plans as they tend to overwork by seeing the topics as a whole. 

For Ex: Creating extensively explained steps around an activity or a lesson to make sure that the topic is explained as a whole, color coding the important information with carefully curated notes, which had to be trimmed later to suit the teaching hours. 

4. Writing on board 

Trainee educators with dyslexia faced difficulty in writing on the board legibly. 

For Ex: It was seen that the trainees with dyslexia felt anxious to write on the board, or create posters as they doubted their ability to write legibly even after extensive practice, and their spelling ability. They required more time to do handwritten work as compared to a non-dyslexic educator. 

5. Reading aloud 

One of the major difficulties faced by dyslexic tutors was while reading out loud to help students learn through illustrations. 

For Ex: This issue was faced by these educators as they occasionally lost track of the pronunciation of the word, or couldn’t locate the problem being asked. However, this occurred only when the lesson or a topic was being taught through a verbal methodology which was accommodated by making the content familiar to oneself and practicing reading it, to be able to avoid distractions after query prompts.

2. Management of oral tasks 

This would involve adopting strategies to avoid challenges while reading the contents, or explaining a concept orally through illustrations. Thus, strategies that can be used: 

• Advance preparation of lessons and their scripts 
• Practice production of class displays through visual prompts
• Mental rehearsal of the content 

3. Differentiation & Inclusion 

This strategy can allow the dyslexic tutors to use their natural ability to differentiate the typical topics to a subject and adapt the material of the lesson according to the strengths of the students in a class. This shall work to nurture their self-esteem due to effective learning and keep them motivated for future experiences. 

4. Layering lessons 

This strategy is effective when tutoring higher classes since the content to be taught can be complex and extensive. Special education implies personalized care and services. Educators often strive to give better lessons to little ones and communicate updates with parents. But with a few difficult caretakers, it may get challenging to deal with. 

Here, a need for a distinct set of strategies and tips are needed for efficient parent-teacher collaboration. This post will provide the needed knowledge in solidly presenting the scenario and also providing tips to deal with. 

Attributes of a difficult parent/parenting style 

Having support and empathy from the parents or caretakers can help students with special needs, and teachers as well. Every parent is different and so is their parenting style. Difficult parents are sometimes challenging to deal with. But what attributes of parents can make it difficult for the instructors to deal with them? Here are a few of these attributes:

• Parents with the tendency to either over indulge or neglect the needs of their child can prove to be difficult during the attempt to develop a balanced path of nurturing for the child.
• Seeking validation for the tasks that are basic to the duties of a parent and creating an environment of hostility if unacknowledged. 
• Parents with a tendency to appear fully equipped and well informed, eventually lacking in judgment and blame the consequences on the educator and the school.
• Parents who have the tendency to reflect their negative experiences or their unfulfilled expectations from the child.
• Parents who are unable to understand the impact of disability on various aspects of life associate the negative outcomes with rather naive and inconsequential features to their child.
• Parents coming from families with conditions like poverty, lawsuits, or multiple individuals with disabilities at home lead to saturation of their capacity to understand and deal with their special needs child and their life goals. 
• It can be difficult for an educator to deal with a situation when the biological parents are not the primary caretakers, and the responsibility has been taken up by foster parents, non-custodial parents, or elder siblings with less to almost no time to spare for the child.

Strategies to deal with difficult parents 

Parenting a child with special needs can feel like being thirsty, only to be surrounded by salty water. But dealing with parents of a special needs child needs skills and a strong drive to make sure that the efforts being put to ensure a quality of life for the child are not hampered. 

Listed below are a few strategies and tips that can help an educator deal with difficult parents and ensure a smooth transition of the partnership. 

1. Open Communication 

An educator should make sure that the parents have an open line of communication with the teacher to establish a leveled ground where the parents don’t feel unheard, unacknowledged, or ignored. Moreover, open communication also makes sure that parents know where their kid is lagging since most of the time the child is spent in school. Hence, open communication makes sure parents are well in the loop of the same. 

2. Research, Reflect and React (RRR strategy)

This strategy would involve the teacher contacting the previous teachers or educators and gaining insights into previous interactions with the particular parent. This would involve organizing meetings or allowing the parent to clarify and put forth their misconceptions before reacting to a perception that could eventually make the situation even more challenging. Unaware of the challenges a parent might be facing, this shall allow the teacher to identify the actual gap in the child’s transition. 

3. Cooperate 

Being cooperative with parents can be extremely rewarding. Parenting can be tiring and confusing, and feeling that they are heard and considered can help them become receptive to the suggested interventions for their special needs child. Thus, It would be wise to meet parents at their convenience, even if that requires meeting outside of the classroom. Nonetheless, accommodating unannounced requests to meet can be politely discouraged and dealt with by recruiting shadow teachers who can briefly meet the parent and tend to their concerns. This way cooperation is executed without having to overlap aspects of the parent’s personal life with the educator’s professional life. 

4. Set Boundaries and Expectations 

Setting boundaries and expectations can be a very effective strategy to deal with difficult parents. Being difficult can lead a parent to push the educator into over indulgence, feeling guilty, overstepping in the strategies used as an educator, etc. Nevertheless, being clear and specific about intolerable behaviors can be liberating. Making sure that your personal life and professional life don’t spill over each other and don’t fuse with the responsibilities of the parents can allow educators to be true to their responsibilities and provide the best of their duties.

5. No surprises

Make sure you are 100% transparent with the parents with regard to any of the issues you might be facing with the children. If teachers think that there is some problem they wish to convey to the parent, there should be full transparency with the parents regarding the same. However, even for teachers when they inform problems, some difficult parents might just forget about the issue or do not take it seriously. In such a case, the teacher should send in regular reminders regarding the student’s problem all year round.

6. Alert the management and the principal

While there is no denying that parents know their kids the best. However, at times, the mindset of a few parents can lead the teachers into thinking that they are challenging to deal with. In such cases, it is best to keep the principal, supervisor, or special education department manager in the loop. This is for the simple fact that they might call a special meeting and press on the issue which can make the work easier for the teacher and the student as well.

7. Try to find a common ground

Some parents can be difficult to persuade and explain. However, understanding what they’re unhappy about can make things easier for the teachers. Ask them to explain the issue, make sure to not interrupt, and find things you agree on. Make the parent feel that you are on the same page and your ultimate objective is also to make the situation better for the child in terms of education. At the same time, do not allow yourself to be pressurised or persuaded. But find a common ground, just for the sake of the child.

8. Keep your cool

you know you are dealing with a difficult parent, maintain your cool and composure. Keep the student’s interest in the center, and try to find a common interest. Often, a parent can be difficult which can make the teachers irritable and agitated. However, in such situations, remember not to take the mindset or mind block seriously. Instead, try to clear that block, but patiently, and politely. 

9. Show examples 

As a teacher dealing with special children on a regular basis, educators might have success stories and examples of techniques that might have worked for other children who must have had the same condition or compromise. Using these examples as a motivation for parents can help to a great extent. For example— The teacher might have a student who had dyscalculia and needed special education for the same. The teacher taught them using a few methods and programs which turned out to be successful for the child. Presenting this in the way of an example can prove to parents that they might not be on the right track with their thinking.

10. Establish a parent resource area

The reason why a few parents can be difficult to deal with is that they might not have the perfect knowledge of the disability, and how their child can be taught with multiple resources, techniques, and programs. For this purpose, it would be a good idea to set up a small room, with multiple resources like books, magazines, handouts and a computer where parents can be invited every now and then so that they too can be educated about what they are misinterpreting. These rooms can also have past projects displayed along with future projects.

Determining the needs of a special child requires the consistent collaboration of the teachers and parents to build a quality life for these children. Therefore, the relationship shared by the teacher and the parent of a special needs child can be an important factor in determining their personality, behavior, and learning. 

This relationship is important : 

• To efficiently identify the areas of development where a student might need attention and work together to determine the appropriate course of action and objectives.
• Not only that, but a child with special needs becomes more motivated toward learning and shows significantly improved behavior when they transition through a healthy parent-teacher relationship. 
• Having mentioned that, mutual respect and an open-ended communication system between teachers and parents also aid the students in mighty ways.
  

Nonetheless, if the parent and teacher share a destructive or rather negative air of partnership, it can be extremely confusing for a child already struggling to function at their optimum potential.
