The player with the right answer will put their chip on the board, and whoever answers all questions correctly and quickly will win.

It is a unique way to test the children’s knowledge and teach them the different uses of various wh-questions. The attractive visuals on the board also help children relate the answer with some images.

6. “Wh” Question Blast Off!

“Wh” Question Blast Off! is an exciting and interactive game with a visually appealing theme to keep kids interested and focused in the game. The game includes an outer space-themed game board and 200 colorful WH-Question playing cards with 40 cards of each wh-question word- who, what, when, where, and why. Additionally, the game has wonderful rockets for playing the game, a dice, and some astronaut pawns.

A maximum of six players can play this game and it can easily be facilitated by educators or parents. To play the game, each player chooses their own astronaut pawn that moves around in outer space orbit. A player will roll the dice and move the marker on the board according to the dice scores. According to the color-coded space on the board where the player’s astronaut pawn will land, the player will have to answer the question. For instance, if the pawn lands on green space, the player has to answer a ‘why’ question.

Each correct answer will permit the player to launch their rocket on the moon. The first player to launch their rocket to the moon ten times will win the game. The game board has bonus spaces available. If the pawn lands on bonus space, a correct answer to a ‘why’ question will result in two rockets launched at the same time. It is a wonderful game to teach children wh-questions and simultaneously improve their language and cognitive skills.

Check Price at Amazon

Concluding thoughts

Board games are a fun way to promote learning and interpersonal skills in children. Kids will learn and work on their cooperating skills, active listening, and responding to others’ queries using different types of games.

Wh-questions are a crucial part of our daily conversations which makes it important to master them from a young age. Wh-question board games are a great means to accomplish that, and they come with various benefits to strengthen basic wh-question skills in children and promote active learning.

Is pattern recognition a form of intelligence?

Pattern recognition is indeed considered a form of intelligence. According to cognitive psychologists, pattern recognition is a key aspect of human intelligence, and the ability to recognize patterns is closely linked to many other cognitive abilities such as problem-solving, decision-making, and creativity. Research[1] has shown that pattern recognition ability is positively correlated with general intelligence that developed as a result of the expansion of the cerebral cortex.

Moreover, pattern recognition is considered to be a fundamental skill for many IQ test fields, including science, engineering, and technology. In fact, it has been found that training in pattern recognition can lead to improved performance in a range of cognitive tasks, such as decision-making, problem-solving, and even creativity.

Conclusion

Pattern-recognition board games can be a fun and educational way for kids to develop their cognitive and problem-solving skills. These pattern games can help children improve their ability to recognize patterns, make connections between different shapes and colors, and think critically.

Additionally, research suggests that pattern recognition is a key component of intelligence and can have a positive impact on academic performance. By engaging in these games, children can boost their confidence, enhance their creativity, and have fun at the same time.

With the wide range of pattern recognition board games available on the market, there is sure to be a game that can meet the needs and interests of any child.

Kids tend to have a more focused attention span while they engage in game-based learning that includes game characteristics and principles embedded with learning activities. Board games may seem like an easy time to spend with your family or friends but subconsciously they benefit children’s brains by boosting their critical thinking.

Math board games can be the ideal option for active learning techniques to promote student engagement as a well thorough understanding of concepts. In math board games, children can practice counting, hand-eye coordination, and making strategies such as planning and organizing.

From as simple as counting spaces when moving objects to count money, even the use of probability, we can make the best of the playtime of kids.

This post includes a list of board games that can be employed in teaching and practicing math concepts with the help of a fun learning environment.

Fun Board Games that help with a better understanding of Math

The below-mentioned board games are specifically designed and made to inculcate math concepts by making the use of critical thinking, concentration, and mental math calculation. These games will also help in reducing anxiety and pressure due to math.

1. Logic Roots Addition and Subtraction Games

This is an adventure-themed board game that provides an exciting medium to practice addition and subtraction. In this game, each player gets to pick two avatars. Cloud hoppers is a subtraction game and mountain raiders is an addition-based game.

How to play:

Roll the dice on the board.

The player needs to add or subtract the number on the dice by the number they’re positioned at.

For example, if a player rolls a 4 and they are positioned at 50. So they will move on to 46 if they are playing cloud hoppers.

For both the games, the theme is to navigate their way from start to finish, while adding or subtracting.

Both the games offer an interesting approach to learning. Players will be able to practice their addition and subtraction skills while playing. The games come with a small notepad and pens. Therefore, the players can either do calculations while writing them down or in their minds. Both ways are essential for strengthening strong calculating skills.

Check Price at Amazon

2. Math for Love Prime Climb

It is a beautiful and color-oriented math board game. Linking colors to numbers and using play in disguise helps sharpen math skills. In this game, players use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to outwit their opponents.

How to play:

To start the game, place two pawns of your color at zero.

The prime time cards should all be shuffled, except for the ones that say, “Write your card.”

Players can use the multiplication table, which is the guide card to be reminded of the order for the turn which goes as roll-move-bump-draw.

The goal in prime time is to take both of your pawns from zero to 101.

Roll the dice and then move the pawns as per the numbers that have been rolled in turn one at a time using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division to wherever the player is on the board.

For example, if a player is at 10 and they roll a 9.

They’ll do 9+10=19 and move from 10 to 19.

Math is the engine of play in this game. The heart of the game is the idea that players can express multiplication and division using color. Thus, the game changes the abstract rule-following process of games into a visually colorful, and intuitive process.

3. Itelya Free The Dinosaurs! – Dinosaur Board Game

The game is based in a large dinosaur park, where a not-so-nice scientist captured 15 dinosaurs. The players need to free these dinosaurs using 85 original illustrated cards and an immersive math-based concept.

How to play:

2-5 players are required to play this game.

Place all the dinosaurs on the board and shuffle the deck.

Distribute all the cards evenly to each player.

Create three piles of cards.

One to draw from, one for used cars, and the last for discarded dino cards only.

The player with the card bearing the image of the trapped dinosaur can release it.

To release the dinosaurs easily, players will have to solve basic subtraction and addition quizzes correctly.

The game helps players practice their subtraction and addition skills. This will help them to consolidate their understanding of such concepts.

4. Pressman SMATH – The Game That Makes Math Fun!

Players can hone their math skills with this numbers game. It helps players to practice addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division while having fun with their peers.

Please Note: This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure (link) for more info.

Social studies are integral to preparing students for life after high school. It’s also the subject that often falls between the cracks in classrooms, where teachers tend to focus on more “practical” subjects like math and reading. But if we want children to learn about history and government and how to read maps or tell time, some fun ways need to be employed in order to make social studies enjoyable!

Social studies help us to keep in touch with history, society, and the geographical aspects of our world. As it is a very fascinating subject, children usually enjoy stories from history. But the real challenge lies in remembering dates in history or facts about our universe. This can be made simpler by introducing games and manipulatives.

In this post, let us look at a few board games that will help a child gain knowledge of this subject more easily.

Inculcating social studies through gamification: What do the studies say?

Play is an important part of mental and social development. Games and activities provide information, presented in a format that is informative and enjoyable. Many board games encourage students to think critically. Playing a board game is an “inquiry-based research process, and in the process of finding answers, the child learns concepts. Board games are also an effective way to employ cooperative learning in the classroom.

Studies[1] have suggested that games have long been used to teach geography, from primary schools to higher levels. Activities and games simulate the outer world and encourage students to engage in role-playing. The use of games has been aimed at generating a range of cognitive and behavioral impacts on students. They bring about knowledge acquisition and concept understanding and also provide motivational outcomes.

Research[2] about the relationship between learning and board games has suggested that Board games are spaces for learning and learning spaces can enable the learning of various contents. In addition, board games allow for various interactions that result in players engaging in computational thinking, teamwork, and creativity.

Board games to learn and practice social studies

As easy and fun as numbering can be for kids, place value, even though it is a core aspect of mathematics, can be dull and boring to learn. However, it is imperative for kids to know the fundamentals of place value to get a comprehensive grasp on math. Teaching concrete, abstract, and conceptual methods of number learning may be what the value in place value stands for. And even if not, it still cannot be missed!

But how to make kids learn and place value in an interesting, interactive, and engaging way? Well, try board games! If there’s anything else that kids love more than their ice cream then it’s games and plays. After all, fun and play can make Jack a wise boy, if he learns place value through board games.

Board games in math can liven the spirit of the classroom at school and at home offering an exciting learning mode. Therefore, in this post, we will talk about some place-value board games that can help your child understand the concept better. Let’s explore many such place-value board games that can add value to your next math lessons. Read more below.

Board games and learning

A growing body of research suggests board games can contribute to better learning for kids. For example, a recent study[1] found that board games can improve children’s executive functioning skills, including working memory, inhibitory control, and cognitive flexibility. These are important skills for academic success.

The authors of the study say that their findings highlight the potential of board games as “a promising educational tool” for enhancing executive functioning skills in children.

So how do board games help with learning?

One way is by providing opportunities for repeated practice. For example, children who play board games must remember rules, plan their moves, and make decisions. This gives them lots of practice with important executive functioning skills.

Another way board games help with learning is by promoting social interaction. When kids play together, they have to communicate, take turns, and cooperate. This helps them develop social skills that are important for academic and life success. So if you’re looking for a fun way to help your child learn, consider adding some board games to your family’s game night repertoire. Not only will you be providing valuable practice with important skills, but you’ll also be creating opportunities for quality family time.

Therefore, below are some fun and ingenious place-value board games that will help students enhance their math skills like no other. Have a look:

Board games that can help your child master place value

1. Didax Place Value Safari

This is a fun board game with the theme of a jungle safari, as the name suggests. There is a hungry tiger on the prowl.

How to play?

Didax Place Value Safari can be played with four players. There are a variety of simple maths tasks that need to be completed to move ahead on the board.

The players choose one of the four boards.

This board must be filled with base 10 units and rods if they have to escape the tiger.

Solving each mathematical task ensures getting a rod or a base unit which helps the game proceed.

The game board is colorful and has animal graphics that keep the child interested and add to the fun aspect of the game.

The first player to cover the entire board with units and rods is the winner.

This very innovative game adds the challenging element of saving oneself from the tiger. The math tasks, therefore, seem less cumbersome.

This game is designed to help children learn place value. To play, students will take turns drawing cards and placing them correctly on their game board. The first player to fill up their board correctly wins!

How to play?

To begin, each player will need a game board and a set of place value cards.

Shuffle the cards and deal them out, so each player has an equal number.

Place the remainder of the card’s faces down in the center of the playing area.

The player with the card with the highest number will start the game.

The number on the card will determine which position it goes in. For example, a “3” would go in the ones position, and a “30” would go in the tens position, and so on.

Once a player has placed their card, their turn is over, and the play passes to the next player clockwise.

The game continues until one player has correctly placed all of their cards.

This game is a great way for children to practice identifying place value. To win, they need to be able to correctly identify which position each number goes in, which will solidify their understanding of place value concepts.

Place Value Bingo is a game that helps kids learn place value. The game is played with a deck of cards, each of which has a number on it. The game aims to match the numbers on the cards to create the highest possible number. The game is won by the player who creates the highest number.

The player with the highest number on their card starts the game and plays passes clockwise.

On their turn, a player must either draw a card from the deck or exchange one of their cards with the top card from the discard pile.

They then place one of their cards face up in the center of the table.

The other players must attempt to beat the number by playing a higher number from their hand.

The first player to run out of cards wins the game.

The game helps learn place value because it helps kids understand how numbers can be combined to create larger numbers. It also helps them understand the value of each digit in a number.

Takeaway

There are many different place-value board games available for kids to play. Each game has its own unique rules and goals. But all of these games share one common goal: to help kids understand place value. Place value is an important concept in math. It helps us understand the value of each digit in a number.

And it’s a crucial foundation for understanding more advanced math concepts. So if your child is struggling with place value, consider getting them a place-value board game. These games can be a fun and effective way to help your child learn.

Please Note: This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure (link) for more info.

To ensure a real-life aura and a pragmatic essence to learning, board games may be a noteworthy pick. This may be true in the process of ESL too. Mentors may often prefer to employ these to entice students as these can be an admirable way to learn a new language and practice vocabulary and grammar.

That being the case, we have researched fine options of board games for ESL. Here, in this post, we listed board games that encourage students to play and simultaneously master the language. These games often improve interaction and thereby could learn real-world queries as well

ESL board games: How do they support?

ESL board games may be a fun method to get children to practice their new language skills. They are appreciable for allowing free practice of certain grammatical structures as well as real language use through conversation. Here are some other worthy edges:

1. Student engagement

Children are always enthralled by the prospect of playing games. These board games can help kids to have a good time while learning a new language. This will secure their participation. They will be stimulated and will not become bored while learning through games. It will also increase their attention span as they will be highly interested.

2. Interaction between students

The focus of the games is mostly on the students. The teacher’s role is limited to that of a facilitator. Class camaraderie is fostered via games. These have the potential to encourage whole-class involvement. Playing games encourages healthy competitiveness. It also increases the interaction among peers.

3. Student-friendly and effective

Most games focus on tasks to be done. These promote the use of language in a creative and spontaneous manner. They help people improve their communication skills. Games may be both motivating and entertaining. Students may ensure engagement along with learning.

4. Opportunities for early learning

Even basic games may help young players learn to recognise colors, count spaces, and improve hand-eye coordination and dexterity as they move cards and pieces across the board. Furthermore, learning to wait your time and observe the rules are valuable skills that children will take with them well.

5. Attention span

When children play board games, their attention span increases as they focus on one task for a longer period of time. They are able to concentrate better in the process. This is because they are highly interested in board games and do not get bored while playing as compared to when they study in the traditional ways.

What do researchers say about the amalgamation of games and ESL?

Wright et al agree that a game provides students with a useful and meaningful context for language use; encourages them to interact and communicate; provides practice for all four skills;, and assists them with making and maintaining the significant effort required for learning another language.

Games, according to Kim and others, may provide a pleasant respite from the language class’s typical routine. When asked about how these games can be employed, he replied that these recreations may be something that students may wait for after exams for their gameplay and engagement. Teachers too prefer them as these games may ensure learning part in them as well.

Board games: Our curated picks for ESL

Here are eight of the finest board games for getting children to talk in ESL and oral communication programs.

1. Talktastic board game

This game with a dice and a board starts with a little planning, children will be asking and responding to questions in no time.

First, the teacher divides the students into groups of two. Students then roll the dice and move their game pieces around the board. They’ll ask their companion the question in the box after they’ve landed on a square.

As a result, their partner reacts until they’ve gone all the way around the game board.

Check price at Official store

2. Scrabble

Children can use a set of letters in a crossword grid to build multiple words. They have to combine letters to form words, then sum up the scores to win. For a big-time word-on-word confrontation, this classic game includes the traditional Scrabble equipment.

This game may let the learners acknowledge new words. Mentors may also join pupils to motivate them. All levels of speakers alike can learn about vocabulary that they may not master previously.

ESL students may like this as a classroom interaction with Scrabble if employed in the classroom.

Check price at Amazon

3. Monopoly

This is a simple dice-driven race around the board in which players can purchase property titles of varied value, build houses and hotels, and then charge rent to those who land on their squares. With a focus on language to communicate and determine the status of the game at various levels, language is often necessary.

This way, the gameplay implicitly assists the students to make use of the English language while noticing, transacting, and performing actions as per the recreation. For instance, if a city is to be purchased, then the player may need to communicate with other players about details and the process of purchase. Further, if another pupil falls in that city later, then the amount of rent and other details may need them to use language skills.

Check price at Amazon

4. Boggle

Boggle is a word search game in which two players compete against one other. To win, you must find the most words. First and foremost, to begin the game Shake up the letters set the timer, and try to find the words as quickly as possible. We may also play this game solo to improve our vocabulary. The rules are simple to learn, but this game, like many spelling games, is difficult to master.

The goal is to focus on the lengthier words while ignoring the three-letter ones that don’t count. It encourages you to think quickly and write quickly.

Check price at Amazon

5. Taboo

This board game and cards start with a player choosing a card and attempting to get people to guess what word is on it, But that is not all to the game. The obvious clues maybe not be allowed when playing the Taboo game. Players have to deliver inventive and well-phrased clues to persuade team members to guess phrases quickly while racing against the clock.

People enjoy the game’s lighthearted character and generate engagement. This game may entertain children, and they will be eager to play it.

Check price at Amazon

6. Snakes and ladder weather

It comes with jumbo-hardwood dice, which provide an excellent gripping surface for small children. What makes this choice distinct from other snake and ladder games is that it has some weather patterns in some grids.
Please Note: This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure (link) for more info.

Apart from classroom assessments, offline practices are often effective in cultivating crucial concepts in the learner, ensuring the real-life essence in them. Monopoly, for instance, is a game of business and money transactions. Not only for this, some board games may ensure to ameliorate selected skills like geometry too.

Being the theory of shapes and their attributes, these may be better grasped with pragmatic practices. For this reason, students or mentors may choose to employ manipulatives or games and can also implant the practice of geometry board games

While you may find a number of board games, which of them are fitting for angles and shapes? To answer these queries, here we mentioned a list of selected games that we believe may ameliorate geometrical knowledge in players.

Geometry board games: A smart mathematical tool?

An enjoyable math game usually includes clear rules, objectives, and competition—either against the clock or against other players. Clear norms and objectives are essential because they inform children of their responsibilities. Competition is important because it provides a challenge for children.

The finest geometry games offer exactly the perfect amount of difficulty. As they play, children must pick and employ strategies to get things done faster. They are required to solve problems and make judgments. No matter if they win or not, games often add to the thrill besides offering multiple edges. Below are the ways in which Geometry board games help children.

Comprehend and Following Directions: Following directions is an important life skill for both home and school, whether your child has just begun school or is going up to secondary school. Children must listen to instructions, absorb them, and then figure out what to do when playing board games. They learn to deal with limitations and constraints and discover methods to work around them.

Enhancing Insights and Teamwork: Board games are often inspired from real life scenarios. Monopoly for example is a clear example of trade and business. This way evidently valuable insights are learned. Further, these games are often played in groups- at least with two players. This teamwork is often addressed, thereby may ensure these as a fun way to engage kids of all ages to collaborate.

Improved Focus: When played without interruptions, board games can enhance a child’s attention span. When people focus on one thing all the time, it becomes second nature to them. Playing these games will make them habitual to give attention to one activity for a long period of time.

Ameliorates Mathematical Intelligence: Along with geometrical abilities, these board games aid in the development of numerous visual, perceptual, cognitive, and thinking skills. These skills help in the development of overall mathematical intelligence.

Board games for Geometry: Our eminent choices

Board games can have a wide variety of play strategies, here are our suggestions to learn and travel with geometry enticingly:

1. Coogam Wooden Hexagon puzzle

Being a set of Hexagon pieces on board, there are a variety of methods to put the pieces together to finish the puzzle. Players get a chance to discover new combinations, thereby ensuring exhilaration.

This game may be effective for kids to work on their hand-eye coordination, geometry, visual-motor abilities, and fine motor skills. Playing with the wooden preschool educational toys improves finger flexibility, stimulates children’s interest in understanding and learning about the world, and improves sensory abilities.

This recreation encourages the youngster to understand spatial relationships between pieces to arrange them. Further, varying colors and combinations may indulge them to learn geometry in multiple dimensions.

2. Volume victory

Volume Victory is a board game that lets children practice calculating the volume of rectangular, triangular, pyramidal, cylinder, and cone prisms. There is a printed and a digital version of this resource. Students must calculate the volume of various numbers in order to progress across the game board.

The complexity of the problems in Volume Victory varies. The complexity of the task is proportional to the number of places they will be able to move if it is solved successfully.

Check price at Official store

3. Learning Advantage: Fence in it

Out of the box, this game comes with a board, pieces of tiles and a few cards with shapes on them. In this recreation, Hands-on activities, problem-solving, and a three-level card game are used to teach area and perimeter principles.

To start with, each player gets a shape card, which they may need to create on the board with the areas and dimensions given on it. Tiles may be considered as unit areas. This way, players can employ these tiles along with rulers to determine areas effortlessly. With these manipulatives, the shapes are created. Now the perimeter and area is measured once again to compare it with that asked in their cards. These insights and gameplay make it a noteworthy pick for revision attributes of shapes.

9 double-sided work cards, rulers, square tiles, and 50 cards are included in this set which makes it suitable for 1-4 players. It assists children to discover how area and perimeter are used in real-life situations and makes use of measurement equipment and mental math abilities.

Check price at Amazon

4. Geoboards

Geoboards help learners understand the principles of geometric forms in an entertaining way. Children can make 2D shapes and compete with each other as to who is the first one to calculate the area or perimeter of that game. They can draw in shapes like squares, triangles, rhombus, etc.

Playing this game, they will be in a better position to calculate the area and perimeter of various shapes. Their speed may also increase as they will be constantly competing to complete the calculations first.

Check price at Amazon

5. Ice cool board game

With the four white fish tokens, this game secures the five-game board boxes together. The player needs to collect a penguin of certain color along with a reminder card, ID card, and three fish tokens to start with. Now, one learner shuffles the cards and piles them up. The fish tokens may now be connected to the entrance of the hall monitors.

The goal of the game is for each player to carefully flick a gaming piece such that their opponents fall over. Each flick symbolizes a different perspective. Children might be encouraged to estimate the magnitude of the angle utilized to flick a piece by their parents. They can also teach their children how to name the many types of angles.

In addition, parents can demonstrate to high school students the relationship between angles and projectile motion in Physics. However, children aged 6 to 10 years old are more likely to find this game intriguing.

Check price at Amazon

6. Three sticks

An enticing game with a board and building sticks; this family board game may entice children’s interest in the wonders of geometry. Sticks of three different lengths – 3, 4, and 5 units are used in the game. The players need to make geometric forms using these. They may gain points based on the size and formation they made. . At a multiplayer level, the game becomes further challenging with one player attacking others.

To begin with, you do not get to pick the sticks; they are chosen at random. Second, each turn only allows you to use two sticks! It’s difficult to make a form using only two sticks. As a result, you must use both of your sticks, as well as any others that the other players may have put on the board.

This is when the game becomes quite creative. This recreation helps children to learn about new shapes. When they will be making shapes themselves by playing a game, it is even easier for them to learn.

Check price at Amazon

7. Learning Resources Crosstown coordinate

It comes with 150 location cards, pawns, checklists, a 19″ square gaming board, and a handbook. Coordinate cards tell players where they should go in the community. They need to flip to check whether they moved the cards correctly by flipping them over. For more complex play, the game board has positive coordinates on one side and both positive and negative coordinates on the other.

It is a simple and enjoyable method of teaching and reinforcing the concept of coordinates. The picture is made in the form of a graph where all the coordinate points are made. Children have to play on these coordinates on the X and Y-axis. Joining the coordinates, they make various shapes on the graph.

Check price at Amazon

9. OjO Shape Factory

Out of the box, the players can access a building area (board), a sand timer, cards depicting an object and shapes of varying colors along with an instruction manual. All these are sturdy and reliable enough to be handled by young learners.

To start with, the pile of cards is shuffled and one random piece is picked. Now, the student looks at the card and places it on the board. They need to observe the image given on the card and start to fabricate the same on the board. They may make use of various shapes like squares, rhombus, triangles to ensure proper output.

Please Note: This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure (link) for more info.

How can sight words be taught with board games? Yes, it may sound weird at first, but it is quite a helpful method. Board games help develop an interest in kids and keep them indulged in learning basic skills. Let’s first acquaint ourselves with sight words.

Importance of sight words

Reading and writing skills are hard to gain without sight words[1] knowledge; children suffering from learning difficulties need to lay more emphasis on these to be conversant with functional reading. These are the most common words that give structure to your language.

One easy way to differentiate these words is that you cannot associate them with any image. For example, helping verbs, propositions, common nouns, pronouns, etc., are some components of written and spoken language that one can locate the fastest in written material.

Also, these sight words be they regular or irregular, pass through the readers’ eyes so swiftly that they don’t even realize having read them. Since these are basic language-building components, the students are supposed to know them right from the preschool stage.

How board games are useful in teaching sight words?

Help build sight word vocabulary in a gamified way of learning (Sprenger, 2010).

Teach how to identify and apply sight words through gameplay

Offer an extra and new way of practicing sight words when worksheets become monotonous.

Bring speed in the identification of sight words, thereby helping increase fluency in using them.

Motivate children to read and practice sight words[2] through an engaging gameplay

Which board games can help you become fluent with sight words? If you are thinking the same, look at the following board games that help improve identification and speed up the usage of sight words correctly in both written and spoken English.

Top board games to master sight words

6. Sight Word Bingo Game

The Bambino Tree realizes how much kids love to play the game BINGO. And so they have designed this engaging game called Sight Word Bingo! Parents and their kids can enjoy this game at home, but the sheer number of players it can accommodate makes this game a perfect choice for classrooms as well.

The game comprises 108 sight words, which are divided into two levels. Level 1 consists of the easiest sight words to master and is suitable for pre-K and kindergarten students.
If you are searching for board games to learn division, you probably are not too comfortable learning it with conventional methods.

And, that is perfectly ok! You can have your own way of learning math or any other subject.

Difficulty with mathematical operations like division is not an alien concept, but do you know why use board games to learn and practice this mathematical operation? If not, I suggest you read this post till the end.

In this post, you can acquaint yourself with:

Why division board games are important?

8 Best Board Games to Learn Division

How to use board games as learning material for teaching division

Once you have understood what role division board games play and which options are worth considering, the road ahead will be clearer for you.

So, here we start!

Importance of division board games

Board games for learning division are multi-utility learning material. These have division as a core of the gameplay. Learners can internalize the process of division by doing this mathematical operation to achieve certain goals or levels in the board games.

Board games for mastering division use gamification to teach this mathematical operation to early learners.

Even those past the early learning stage can get their requisite dose of practice or brush up on division skills with these board games.

Division-focused board games introduce the practical utility of this mathematical operation by including it in a hypothetical situation like the theme of the game.

The best part is children learn the division without realizing the drill when they play these board games.

To add to all, an e-book on board games by David Moursund[1] suggests that problem-solving skills can be enhanced by giving these board games to kids as learning material.

Thus, board games are not meant to disconnect you from learning; in fact, these games help strengthen understanding.

Let’s find here the high-rated board games for learning division that can help you master the skills of dividing, creating proportionate parts, and learning concepts like quotient, remainder, etc.

8 Innovative board games to learn division

1. Math for Love Prime Climb

Prime Club from Math for Fun offers lots of opportunities throughout the gameplay to do all math operations like division, and others. This game comes with challenge cards that guide the learners on what to do at each stop of this spiral chain that can attract young learners with ease. Apart from giving practice, the game helps learners enhance their thinking ability. They need to think fast, recall the division process, and make decisions that can help them reach the end of the spiral chain the fastest.

Gameplay involves other math operations, too, as they need to decide which operation to choose to jump to the farthest stop in the chain. All in all, apart from increasing the ease of operations, this game boosts math reasoning skills too.

2. Multiplication & Division Bingo Game

Bingo is a game played worldwide and has its fans amongst people of all age groups. This division board game offers a fun-filled way of practicing problems. The timed manner of playing this game can help stimulate the mind better; further, the cognitive skills are improved too. If you want some activity to do with kids to befriend them with the division method, this board game serves the purpose the best.

The game is found to be a good mental capacity booster[2] for seniors too. It requires the learners to stay alert, make quick calculations and decisions, and bend their minds to accept various conditions. So, it can act as an interesting way to connect and learn and eventually grow.

Check price at Amazon

3. Logic Roots Pet Me Multiplication and Division Game

It is a game that has everything that can draw the kids to practice division without realizing that they are doing something related to their studies. Its backdrop of garden and elements like animals, pawns, etc. appeal to kids. Parents can further make it more interesting by weaving a story around the gameplay. Thus, the little learners get to understand the practical utility of division. The food for the pet animals earned as a reward induces a feeling of accomplishment among kids too.

This game requires the little learners to divide the food among pets as per the instructions provided. So, by a simple activity of dividing food, they are given a firsthand introduction to the concept of division. The number of animals fed by them forms the quotient. With such a catch analogy to offer, this game is most likely to help the kids to retain the concept in their minds for longer.

Check price at Amazon

4. Proof! Math Game – The Fast-Paced Game of Mental Math Magic

Strategy-focused learning[3] is more effective in understanding the concept better and in identifying the pattern in problems (Newell and Simon, 1972); this game is based on this thought. It is because Proof requires the learners to share the process by which they arrived at the answer. The one who answers the fastest has to give proof, which is actually a mathematical operation applied to solve the problem.

Thus, this game is one of the most promising tools that can help improve the thinking ability of kids or early learners. There are nine number cards provided in this game, which contain equations hidden. The kids identify the equations corresponding to the problem’s solution and justify it with reasoning. So, it helps to boost thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving ability, in addition to mastering mathematical operations like division.

Check price at Amazon

5. Adsumudi Math Game

As crazy as it may sound, this monstrously fun game by Evermade can make math-related fears go away by engaging children in an entertaining way. Perfect for kids aged 8–12, this game can be a useful resource for helping kids practice division operations. Not only that, it also includes activities related to addition, subtraction, and multiplication to provide an overall learning experience.

The game is not restricted in terms of how it can be played. Kids and adults giving them company can turn the gameplay into a competition or play collaboratively to find solutions. There are a whopping 416 challenges to tickle a child’s brain. Each of these challenges is segregated based on difficulty so that players can choose a level based on their skills. All in all, Adsumudi is an easy-to-learn and fun game for kids who want to enhance their division skills and other math operations.

Three slots are placed on a triangle and mathematical signs like division, subtraction or addition, etc. are placed in between these. The game requires the learners to place the numbers on the slots according to the mathematical signs. This game can be considered an entertaining take on the number bonds charts, which teach the relationships between the numbers in a learning-focused way. An element of fun and challenge is added to this game by offering the challenge and hint cards, helping the math beginners choose the division option and perform it too.

This board game for learning division can offer a mind-stimulating way of mastering basic math operations. Kids pick the signs and numbers based on their knowledge of operations and their impact on the numbers. Thus, it helps build confidence with number bonds, number sense, and calculation methods.

7. Kitki Mind Your Numbers Math Game

It is a quick-paced, mind-bending board game that enables kids to be fluent in division and other math operations. Kids find a lot of numbers’ card-related activities to do, using which they need to score the highest to be the winner. They operate on the numbers with appropriate signs to get the highest possible number, this gameplay gives ample opportunities to reason, analyze, and most importantly, quickly calculate.

Mind the numbers teach us to be mindful of numbers and relationships. This board game allows practicing and demonstrating quick thinking and helps develop comfort with math operations. It can rightly be called an amazing mental math ability booster!

How to use board games as learning material for teaching division

Math board games enhance the flexibility of the mind and make it more receptive toward arithmetical and logical reasoning concepts. But, all of this becomes possible to achieve when you have chosen the correct strategies. A few important ones worth practicing are:

1. Give an introduction about the arithmetic operation you intend to teach through a board game. It helps keep the fun and learning in a balanced way. You can even do some division activities with manipulatives before you start playing the board game.

2. Make groups and organize competitions according to the number of players that can play the board game for division.

3. Conduct number talk sessions to find how kids plan to excel or win the board game and encourage them to come up with better and quicker strategies to solve division-based problems provided in-game.

4. Make it a point to play regularly. Abandoning the board game after playing it only once can fail to reinforce the concept in the mind. So, repeat plays should be encouraged to give better practice.

Final word

New age learning tools like board games and online division games offer a plethora of engaging and educational options for our little learners. The division board games listed above have proven to be invaluable tools in nurturing children’s mathematical skills, critical thinking, and social development. These make the intimidating concept of division approachable and enjoyable for little kids.

Through gameplay, children not only grasp the principles of division but also learn important life skills such as teamwork and problem-solving. When kids explore these games with their parents, teachers, or caregivers, they develop a love for learning that extends beyond the confines of the classroom. Therefore, we must recognize the impact that play has on a child’s growth and provide them with ample games and opportunities so they can thrive academically and socially and create memories for a lifetime.
