Are you looking for a simple and viable tool to track the behavior of your preschool students or your preschool-going child? If yes, then let us introduce you to one of the most commonly used tools to monitor student behavior, which is the well-known “behavior chart”. Considering the utility and effectiveness of behavior charts in managing classroom behavior, we have come up with a collection just for you!

Our template is free for teachers and parents to use without spending a single penny! So, don’t hesitate to download and print as many copies of these charts as you would like and begin your journey toward creating a positive classroom environment where little kids are encouraged to learn and display positive behaviors in every sphere of life.

What is a behavior chart, and what is it useful for?

A behavior chart is a great tool that comes in handy when you want children to pick up good behaviors and ditch the problematic ones. It is a wonderful means for positive reinforcement as you pay more attention to a child’s positive behaviors and reward them for the same.

Using a behavior chart, you can make a note of how a child reacts in different scenarios and whether they are adopting behaviors that are expected of them. These notes can serve as a record you can use while creating student assessments which you can later send to parents to share their child’s overall performance. Moreover, behavior charts can help you identify behavioral patterns. They may even let you notice behavioral issues which may require special intervention.

Are behavior charts helpful for preschool kids?

Yes, they are! Preschoolers are at the age when they love to exert independence and do things their way. Try to stop them, and you will see them sulk and whine, so you give in and let them do things their way. Behavior charts come to your rescue, especially when you’re handling a bunch of preschoolers in your classroom. These charts act as a visual reminder where kids can see how well they behave at school. Using inexpensive rewards like stars or stickers, you can encourage kids to behave in a way suitable for a classroom environment.

Seeing how they are doing compared to their peers and where they stand when it comes to rewards received can motivate kids to behave well and avoid behaviors that can lead them to unwanted consequences.

Here are the benefits of using a behavior chart:

Allows you to set clear expectations.

Reinforces good behavior.

Serves as a visual reminder for kids.

Fosters orderliness in the classroom and ensures discipline.

Gives students immediate feedback on their behavior.

Motivates kids to demonstrate positive behaviors with the help of rewards and recognition.

Get more than 10,000 + Kids Worksheets, Activities Pages, Coloring Pages, Templates, Classroom Posters, and Other Educational Resources visit our store .

What’s included in our preschool behavior chart template

Our preschool behavior chart bundle consists of three different types of charts that parents and teachers can use. Let’s see what they are and how you can use them.

1. The Blue Chart

This chart is a good choice for those who want to monitor kids’ behavior at home and school without the hassle of maintaining two separate charts. The template consists of two different sections for home and school where you can record a child’s behaviors. Being a weekly template, you can see how a child’s behavior has been throughout the week. The template has enough space for you to keep a check on up to five behaviors at home and five at school.

2. The Pink Chart

Here is yet another weekly chart for behavior management. However, it has a different format than the blue chart. You can allot one sheet for every child and write their specific behavior goals for the week or month. Then there is space for writing the behaviors you want the child to work on.

You can either mark a tick on specific days when the child displays the behavior or ask them to use a crayon to mark their behavior on the chart. This will make them realize that they are accountable for their own actions and behaviors. The chart even gives you space to make notes at the end of the week and assign star rewards to the child based on their overall behavior in that particular week.

3. The ABC Behavior Chart

The last item in our preschool behavior chart bundle is the ABC behavior chart. ABC stands for Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence. This type of chart is beneficial when you want to collect information about the root cause of certain behaviors. When you know what circumstances lead to a particular behavior, you are better equipped to handle and divert these behaviors in a positive direction.

The ABC chart has three sections where you can note what happened immediately before the behavior, the behavior itself, and what action or consequence followed immediately after it. You can also mention the date and time of the behavior so you can refer to it later and use the information if required.

Unlike the blue and pink charts, which are reward oriented, the ABC chart is more about knowing why a child is presenting a particular behavior. The information you gather through this chart can be used for functional behavior assessment of a child with special needs or learning difficulties.

You can download all these charts in pdf format from the link given below.

How can you use our preschool behavior chart effectively?

The first and foremost thing you must do when you start using a behavior chart for your preschool students is to introduce the chart to everyone. Take time to explain to the kids what a behavior chart is and why you use it in the classroom. Tell them how their behaviors will reflect on the chart on a daily basis. Make sure they know that positive behaviors will earn them rewards while negative behaviors may invite consequences.

Once children are clear about the chart and your expectations from them, you can find an empty wall in your classroom and paste individual behavior charts for display. When a child behaves appropriately, praise them and give them a sticker to put on the chart. As kids understand that positive behaviors can get them more stickers and appreciation, they will be more likely to repeat them.

Things to include in a preschooler’s behavior chart

Before you begin using a behavior chart for your students, write their names and the name of the month for which you are making a record. Next, you can make a list of behaviors you want the child to work on. Remember, the goals must be clear and easy to understand for preschoolers. You can read our positive classroom behavior list to understand what you can include.

If there are specific adaptive skills your students are working on, you can add them to the chart as well. Our preschool adaptive skills checklist can give you ideas on which adaptive skills preschoolers can work on. Once the chart is ready with all the details, you and your students can begin using it. And don’t forget to stock up on stickers and simple rewards to keep kids motivated, along with lots of positive reinforcement.

Even parents can use preschool behavior chart templates and effective rewards to promote good behavior at home. If pen and paper is not your style, you may like to use one of those behavior-tracking apps available online for managing behavior and measuring progress.

In conclusion

A preschool behavior chart is an effective means to encourage positive conduct. It gives kids a clear idea of what’s acceptable and what’s not. However, when implementing a behavior chart, it’s crucial to remember that each child is unique, and their needs and abilities should be taken into account. While a behavior chart can be beneficial, it should not be the only method of behavior management. You can combine it with other strategies like positive reinforcement, verbal praise, and modeling appropriate behavior.

When used in conjunction with other strategies, a behavior chart can help create a supportive and nurturing environment where preschoolers can thrive and work toward becoming confident, responsible, and well-rounded individuals in the future.

At such times, using some logic might not just be the right way to go about it.

Similar is the case with Blends and Digraphs. They can make reading, writing, and pronunciation much easier once kids learn the difference between them. While these help us immensely with the learning of the sounds of the words, they can be complex and challenging at the same time.

However, making the task a little easier, a blend and digraph chart can come in handy for students who are just starting out to learn more about the whole concept. Moreover, creating a list of blends and diagraphs and putting them on a chart will help students as they will get a glimpse of it every time they come across the chart.

Blends and Digraphs: Exploring the differences

The blend and digraph both fall under phonics. Learning these small combinations of letters is crucial to reading and spelling correctly. One can sound more like a pro when reading or writing keeping just a few things in mind. However, these can be tough nuts to crack, and that too, at an early age.

Firstly, Digraphs are two letters put together to make one sound. They can be made up of two consonants or a consonant and a vowel, like in the words “th” (think of the letter “T”), or they can be made up of two vowels, like, “eu.”

In a blend, each letter represents its sound in the pronunciation of the word. For example, Skirt. Here, All 5 letters have their own sound, and none of them are combining with one another to form a different sound.

In other words, a digraph corresponds to a single phoneme, whereas a blend corresponds to two or three phonemes (sounds) blended.

In what order should you teach blends and digraphs?

Blends and diagraphs, the two phonics that often confuses the best of people, can be taught in a specific manner to make the students more aware of the concept. While tools like worksheets and charts work well for students as they offer a helping hand to the kids, teachers often wish to know which one should be ideally introduced first.

While a teacher or educator can find the best method for their students, it is substantially beneficial that blends should be introduced prior to diagraphs. This is for the simple fact that when learning about these blends, students understand the diagraphs better, once they have a strong hold on blends.

Additionally, most teachers also like to teach and introduce blends and digraphs in groups, as this helps them retain both concepts simultaneously and does not confuse them.

Conclusion

In conclusion, understanding the differences between these letters will ensure you are able to choose the correct letter and avoid any mistakes. At the same time, educators and parents must also realize that when topics and concepts like Blends and Digraphs are taught at an earlier stage, the kids become more fluent in the language as they know how to differentiate the spellings. While English is the most commonly used language, whether locally, or in a professional setting, some words flabbergast and confuse the best of us. Hence, learning about blends and digraphs can be supremely helpful to the kids and their future.

We all know the importance of numbers, counting, and other essential math concepts like place value, which are irreplaceable in life. The word value in place value stands for the value addition it brings to digits. Be it money, calculations, measurements, or any other crucial math activity, place value is an imperative part of learning mathematics.

In mathematics, place value refers to the position or location of a digit in a number. Each digit has a specific location in a number. Those positions begin with a unit place, often known as one’s position. Units, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousand, a hundred thousand, and so on are the order of place value of digits of a number from right to left.

It is critical that children learn that while a number can be identical, its value is determined by its position in the number. Plenty of materials, online and offline games, and methods can be deployed to make students fall in love with this! Let’s read ahead.

How to introduce place value in a fun way?

Understanding place value is the final step in developing number sense in primary kids. It is critical that place value be explained utilizing actual things rather than just numbers on paper. There are also plenty of misconceptions about place value, which can be looked at.

Searching for place value games that will get your children as enthused about arithmetic as you are? We’ve created game-based methods for teaching children to round up and round down figures and calculate using their understanding of place value. Check out these fun and inventive ways to teach your kids about place value.

1. Ascend the Rounding Ladder

To play this place value exercise, your children will need to know how to round numbers up or down to the closest 100 or 1,000. For this, you will need:

A game board like Snakes and Ladder (1-100)

A die or a spinner that goes up to 10

Four playing pieces

How to play

Your objective is to be the first player to reach the finish line by rounding numbers correctly and getting high scores. The game is for two to four players.

To begin, each player chooses a playing piece and sets it on the START space. The youngest player gets to start the game and play passes clockwise.

On their turn, a player rolls the dice. They move their playing piece forward the number of spaces rolled/spun. The player must speak out the place value of the landed block number instead of saying it plainly. For example, if a player lands on a 21. They must say 2 tens and 1 one, instead of saying twenty-one.

If they speak out the place value correctly, the chance passes.

If they speak out the place value incorrectly, they miss their chance and go back to the Start space to start afresh.

The first player to reach the FINISH line wins the game!

2. Numbers 0-1,000,000 Place Value Bingo Game

Everyone enjoys bingo! Having a variety of bingo cards on hand for place value comprehension is an ideal approach to supplement your math center activities! You will need:

Printable bingo tickets for each player

numbers

How to play

This game is played like any other bingo game. The object of the game is to be the first person to cover five numbers in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally).

Before beginning, players should look over their bingo tickets and get acquainted with them.

The one bidding/ calling out the bingo numbers must not speak them plainly. He/she must speak out the number in a place value format. For example, if the number is 48 then it must be narrated as 4 tens and 8 ones. Similarly, if the number is 32 then the narration should be 3 tens and 2 ones.

Ticket holders must be all ears while playing this fun game in order to tick off the correct number on time.

The game continues until one player has five numbers in a row covered and yells, “Bingo!”

3. Flip It! Place Value Game Play with a Book

It’s now time to Flip It! This a fun and easy everyday activity cum game that can be played anytime, any day, and anywhere. Here’s what you need to play this game:

A book, preferably math

A sheet to tally and note down individual scores

How to play

The object of the game is to fill in as many numbers on your score sheet as possible.

To start, teachers must speak out a number. Say, 235 but in a place value format. For example, 2 hundred, 3 tens, 5 ones. Now flip the page!

Kids now need to start flipping their math book pages to locate that number.

This activity will help to evaluate if the child understood the concept and is able to comprehend the number presented in a place value format

Get more than 10,000 + Kids Worksheets, Activities Pages, Coloring Pages, Templates, Classroom Posters, and Other Educational Resources visit our store .

Printable place value chart for kids

There are many ways in which teachers or even parents can best utilize these place value charts for kids. However, one of the most crucial steps for learning arithmetic is to constantly keep them engaged. It can be a:

1. A constant source for reference: These charts can be hung or pinned on the study wall of the classroom, from where the whole class can easily see them. It can be a constant source of reference when solving questions. This can also be very well individually distributed to each student during and after classes.

2. Classroom intervention material: Provide students with fast reference material. You can also conduct a quick talk session by asking them how they should be approaching a certain problem, while they take a quick look at the place value chart. It will help them understand the concepts better and faster. Parents can later also go through these charts with their kids to better understand their strengths and weaknesses.

3. Revision at the end of the week: Assuming a teacher would take a week to complete a certain portion of this topic, they can hand over these charts to the students and do a run-through or a revision session together. This way, children can experience an interactive and collaborative environment. These charts can also act as an aid during games and activities in the classroom while hosting the revision. Students will be able to compete to solve problems by referring to the place values on the chart. This way, they will not only finish quicker but also have fun while doing so!

Concepts that can be taught using a place value chart

The concept of using place value stands irreplaceable given the excessive use of numbers in our day-to-day life. Therefore, charts are a good place to start when teaching numbers to young kids. Place Value Charts and their variants can be used for:

Recognizing numbers

Counting backward

Number rounding

A set of numbers comparison.

Converting numbers among word, standard, and expanded forms

Differentiating place value and period value of a digit in a number

The concept of place value is of utmost importance, be it mathematics or daily life event. If you’re looking for more math resources to engage your child in learning place value, be sure to check out our collection of math resources that includes varied manipulatives, online games, and activities.

Takeaway

Understanding the place value helps budding learners with the foundation for regrouping multiple digit numbers and simplifying multiplication and decimal numbers in a great way. Apart from this, it also helps students understand the magnitude of numbers. Hence, downloading and using the printable place value chart can be of significance when used by educators and parents for their kids. This place value chart will also help the learners understand the operations of mathematics, which can help them substantially during their future years of education and adulthood.

When children learn to read, one of the skills they need to develop is the ability to blend individual sounds into words. This can be a challenge for some kids, but there are a few things that parents and teachers can do to help. One approach is providing a list of blending words for kindergarteners to practice. These lists typically include simple, three-letter words that can be easily sounded out.

Blending words, also known as transitions, essentially signal changes between ideas in your writing. These signal words can help show order, list items, or compare and contrast concepts. For example, At – bat, bed, bet, bit, bot, but, did, dip, dish, fix, hid, him, hit, hop, jog, kit, leg, lip, mat, mix, mop, net, nut, pan, pet, pit, pot, rid, rob, rot, rug, sip, six, ten, top, wet, win, yes, zoo.

These were some of the few examples of the 3 alphabet-based blending words. In this post, we will discuss a lot more about blending words, how they are different from digraphs and where they are ideally used. We will also unfurl a set of 20 blending words that your kid can use in their everyday conversations. Read more below.

Blending words: The process of putting together individual sounds within a word

Blending is the process of putting together individual sounds to form a word:

For example, the word ‘cat’ can be created by blending the sounds /k/ + /a/ + /t/. Once children can identify all of the individual sounds in a word, they can blend them together to say the word as a whole.

Since blending concerns segmenting words and forming the whole word, students must learn both skills. Early phonemic awareness skills are essential for preschoolers and kindergartners to learn blending words.

The process of identifying blended words is easy. However, as a ward to kindergarteners, it is essential for one to follow the process rigorously.

The first step is to identify all of the individual sounds in a word. Once children can identify all of the individual sounds in a word, they can blend them together to say the word as a whole. This process can be tricky for some children, as they need to be able to hear all of the individual sounds in a word and then put them together quickly in their minds.

If a child is struggling to blend words, it may be helpful to break the word down into smaller chunks and help them blend each sound separately. For example, the word ‘train’ can be broken down into three chunks: /t/ + /r/ + /ain/. Once each sound has been blended separately, the child can then put them all together to say the whole word.

Start by Oral Blending the words. This technique involves saying a word and then breaking it into its individual sounds for your child to blend together. For example, you could say the word ‘bat’ and then break it down into /ba/ + /e/ + /t/. Once your child has blended the word orally, you can then move on to written blending.

You can also use Continuous and Stop sounds in the right places. This ensures that the child knows when to start and end each sound. For example, the word ‘hat’ starts with a continuous sound (/ha/) and ends with a stop sound (/t/). Therefore, spaces, where pauses need to be taken, should be clear to kids.

Ways to teach blending words

Use of rhymes. This helps kids learn to identify the individual sounds in words and then blend them together to form a word. For example, the nursery rhyme ‘Mary Had a Little Lamb’ includes the words ‘ Mary, ” had, ” a” little, ” lamb. ‘ By breaking down each word into its individual sounds, children can then start to blend them together to say the whole word.

Use of picture books. When reading a book with your child, point out words that they may find difficult to blend and then help them break the word down into smaller chunks. For example, if your child is struggling to blend the word ‘car,’ you could say, “The word ‘car’ starts with the sound /c/. Can you hear that sound? The next sound is /a/. Can you hear that sound? And the last sound is /r/. Can you hear that sound? Now put all of the sounds together and see if you can say the word ‘car.’

Here are some tips on how you can help your child practice blending words:

Read aloud to your child regularly and point out words that they may find difficult to blend.

Help them break the word into smaller chunks and blend each sound separately.

Encourage your child to use rhymes when learning new words. This will help them identify the individual sounds in words and then blend them together to form a word.

Play word games with your child. This will help them hear the individual sounds in words and blend them together to form a new word.

Practice makes perfect! The more your child practices blending words, the better they will become at it.

Takeaway

Blending is an important phonics skill for kindergarteners as it helps them read and write independently. As you help your kindergartener learn to read, be sure to introduce them to blending words. Blending words will help them become better readers and spellers.
Yes, we can always make a table to structure our data, but what if you have too much data? That is where graphs and charts come to your rescue. Graphs and charts are essential tools to analyze and visualize the data. They represent data in an organized way which helps us process content and make connections more easily. Students who are new to the subject find it arduous to understand graphs and charts at first. For this very reason, graphs and charts have been taught in middle school for years now. However, the teaching method doesn’t have to be an old-school method, and it can be fun!

In such situations, teachers can introduce Manipulatives, which are educational instruments used to teach abstract ideas of mathematics in a fun way. Anything from clay to coins can be used to break down complex jargon. We now have computer apps, games, tools, etc. as well that help a student learn things easier. These are all examples of manipulative tools in learning.

Being a multi-sensory approach, it indulges, engrosses, and pushes a child to think and solve problems using smarter methods.

In this post, you will find:

How do manipulatives help students?

How do manipulatives help in learning graphs and charts?

Manipulatives for learning graphs And charts

How do manipulatives help students?

From abstract reasoning to making the ideas concrete, manipulatives help students understand a concept without the involvement of books.

Manipulatives help students in the following way –

It provides a first-hand interaction to students, which helps them understand mathematics.

It brings meaning to abstract mathematical ideas in the minds of students

These tools visibly explain relationships between different mathematical concepts a lot easier.

Manipulatives expose students to real-life scenarios and logical tests, which helps in developing reasoning skills in students.

It involves the physical representation of mathematical concepts.

Manipulatives encourage students to unleash their creativity & play with math.

They find the learning process enjoyable rather than a drag.

When practised through manipulatives, students can retain concepts like graphs and charts for a longer time. This is because manipulatives encourage more practical use of these concepts.

Manipulatives show how a concept is used in real life and its importance in the future, which also helps students understand the vitality of comprehending the concept.

How does it help, particularly in learning graphs and charts?

Teachers try their level best to make students understand crucial concepts like Graphs and Charts. But sometimes, just the book and blackboard are not enough. Engaging students in activities and manipulatives helps the children to grasp better and retain forever.

Sometimes graphs can be tedious and intimidating. Axis, Line graph, bar graph, pie-charts, Venn diagrams are probably crazy beasts in the mind of some students. But manipulatives make these beats less evil, as they enable students to comprehend these examples by carefully observing real-life examples.

Learning this way creates a paradigm shift for students where they no longer fear the subject.

Students do not look at manipulatives as a part of their studies because this teaching method involves students in fun activities and helps them understand such concepts uniquely.

Some topics, when taught practically make a huge difference. Such is the case with graphs and charts. This is one concept that cannot make the grade by just blackboard teaching, and this is where manipulatives become efficacious.

Manipulatives for learning graphs And charts

1. Pictograph

A pictograph represents data in the form of images. It helps students to visualize the data and analyze it better. One fun activity would be to draw grid lines on the ground and ask the students to collect leaves from different trees and plants. Make sure they don’t destroy the plant. Make a pictograph out of the leaves collected.

2. Cuisenaire Rods

Cuisenaire rods can work as great data analysis tools because they look like a bar graph when joined together. Teachers can encourage students to use these rods as fraction bars and bar graphs. The teacher can ask a question, take a poll, and ask the students to plot the answers with the help of these rods. Cuisenaire rods work as great manipulatives because each block is of a different size, making it perfect for marking the answers of the poll.

3. Human Graphing

Teaching graphing by using humans as manipulatives can be another educational method. You can teach higher-standard students to plot the points on the line or curve using human graphing. Draw XY axis on the ground using marking chalk powder. Give the coordinates to students and ask them to stand on their respective positions on the XY plane. Here students act as points on a line or curve, and one student will connect all the dots with marking powder. Later, teachers can discuss the activity and the pointers related to it.

4. Motivation Stampers

Motivational stamps are ink stamps that are engraved with motivational words like ‘great,’ ‘excellent,’ ‘loved it,’ and much more. These are ideal for teachers and are great motivational tools for students. But these motivational stampers can be used as manipulatives to learn about Graphs and Charts.

Ask them to stamp based on a variety of questions or statements:

How do you feel when appreciated?

How do chocolates taste?

Tell a funny joke.

They have to stamp on a sheet based on their moods and then form a graph using the information. The graph could be based on the number of children who gave similar responses. Students can also take out the percentage of each response and plot it on the graph.

5. Connect 4

Connect 4 is a popular game among teens but did you know we could use Connect 4 to learn Mathematics? By labeling rows and columns appropriately, it is no less than graph paper. You can also teach the equation of a straight line using this manipulative. Once you fill up the horizontal and vertical lines and make them look like the X and Y axis, you can use other pieces as coordinates and use this game in place of your graphing sheet.

6. Matchsticks As Tally Marks

In graphing the data, counting and arranging is crucial. When practicing graphing through activities, you can choose match sticks, which act as a great tool when you want to count your data. Through this activity, you can ask students to collect the data, arrange & graph it.

Topics could be –

The number of students having birthdays in different months of the year.

Test scores in different subjects.

Students who like the same color.

Students who like the same subject.

7. Magnetic Sticks & Balls

Magnetic sticks and balls, when used as manipulatives, are fun as well as challenging. Ask students to make different shapes in different numbers through the given sticks and help them graph them. Similarly, you can also use lego blocks. Teachers can also introduce the concept of 3D Modeling as food for thought.

8. Snakes & Ladder- Roll A Die

Snakes and ladders have been a highlight of everyone’s childhood. But, once students grow up, this game can be used as a manipulative to teach them about graphs and charts.

After rolling the die, ask children to note the number they have got on each turn. Students can use tally marks for ease. After the game is over, teach them to make graphs based on their data.

We could use tally marks to note down how many turns each child got or graphs to see the most repetitive number on the roll. Graphs can also help add fun to the game by revealing which kid has won the most games.

9. Ice Trays

Ice trays can be used as a teaching tool to mark the tallies of a poll taken. The teacher can join 3-4 ice trays side-to-side and conduct polls. The answer to the polls must be added to the ice trays.

For example, if the teacher conducts a poll about favourite subjects, and English gets the vote of 5 students, then five pieces of a particular eraser or any other piece to demarcate should be added to one column of the ice tray. For this, the teacher should label the columns beforehand. To make it more interesting, teachers can ask questions based on the poll taken, and then students need to answer by adding the erasers in the ice trays.

Conclusion

Although intimidating for newcomers, the concept of graphing and charting data is one with long-term utility. Kids would need to perfect graphing and charting both. To make the learning easier and smoother, teachers can introduce the above-stated manipulatives as educational tools. These can be great teaching tools, which can seize students’ interest and help them learn effectively.

High school is an exciting phase of one’s life. So much to learn, and also, there is so much fun! However, this is also the time when students make some choices that well over pave their life. Academic performance is needed too, and the subjects get harder! One such concept is graphing, which is not only a part of mathematics, but in high school, it used in other concepts too, like:

Algebra

Conics

Physical Chemistry

Laws of Motion

Data Analytics & Statistics

Not just limited to being a subject in your academia, graphs will be relevant for working professionals like engineers, doctors, etc. So, graphing is a life skill! And, if you have been iffy about it, don’t worry, it doesn’t have to be complex and boring. With the right methods, graphs and charts are fun and interesting.

In this post, you will find more information on:

Graphing for High Schoolers

How do activities help students with Graphing

Ten Graphing Activities

Graphing for high schoolers

From newspapers to bills to even the doctor’s reports, graphing has become an inevitable part of today’s lives. This means that students are not just analyzing data and interpreting it in their high school, but, later on, when they are ready to step up as adults, it would remain a part and parcel of their life. This calls for a deeper understanding of this subject.

So, let us begin with a simple definition.

A graph is a visual representation of data and is a vital tool to understand the relationship between two things and concepts. A graph has two axis, the X and the Y, which are two separate parameters being studied in relation with one another for a subject.

For example- Current increases with an increase in voltage and decreases with an increase in resistance. When you graphically explain this, students understand it better. You can have two graphs, one with current and voltage and the other with current and resistance as the X and the Y-axis. This will help kids remember the dynamic between these factors.

Although graphs exist for the purpose of making data analysis easier, we get it! Some kids may have trouble with graphs, but nothing to worry about! Fun activities meant for late adolescents can help them excel at graphing within a few sessions.

How do activities help high schoolers in understanding graphing?

Conventional graph teaching methods exist, so, why does one have to employ newer ones? Here are some reasons why educators should opt for activities to teach a new subject like graphing:

Continuous lectures on complex subjects may become boring sometimes. Activities pour some fun into the process.

Activities enable students to think outside the box. New fun ways of teaching empower a student’s innovative and creative power to shine through.

These graphing activities demonstrate real-life examples. Students find it difficult to relate how graphs might be useful in daily life, but, when they see an example that is likely to play out, it would also encourage them to think outside the box.

Graphing activities bring out greater involvement from students, which results in greater understanding. The whole process makes learning easy.

Simple activities to excel graphs and charts in high school

1. What’s your equation?

In this activity, students are supposed to make graphs with the help of digital tools. These tools enable students to get the hang of graph functions, equations, and calculations.

The first step would be to make students write any equation of their choice. Followed by designing their own graph or shape for it.

The tool would display each student’s graph on the same screen. The teachers would help them understand the properties of equations and later discuss them in the class.

For example-

Concentric circles: Each student will write one equation of the circle.

Name of their section/school using equations of straight line, circle, parabola, etc.

Landscape – 1. Waves(sinx,cosx) + Sun(circle) + Mountain(parabola,hyperbola)

Planets orbiting Sun (Circles & Ellipses)

Here are some free online digital tools to use-

Math is fun

Desmos

Geogebra

Phet Interactive Solutions

2. Cut those cones

Ask each student to bring one conical-shaped object from their home. It could be anything such as a party cone, an ice cream cone, an old funnel, carrot, radish, etc. Now ask them to cut its sections and explain conic sections to them.

Students can graph the section they have cut on the graph paper, and the teachers can ask questions based on that.

3. Budget graphing

Give students personal budgeting worksheets. Teach them data analysis and statistics by giving examples of your budget analysis. Histograms, Pie-charts, Line graphs can be used to represent and analyze income, expenses, savings, plans for long-term goals. This activity can be done at home as well, as this is beneficial for a student’s personal growth.

4. Graph on wheels

This is a fun cycling activity. It’s a race that is not about winning but about following the graph. Each participant will be given different graphs of distance VS time. They have to maintain their speeds according to the graph. Students can use speedometers to measure their speed. The added advantage of this activity is that it even promotes fitness and keeps students’ physical health in check.

In each graph, there must be portions of different velocities to make it challenging. Graphs will be designed such that each participant will reach the finish line at the same time. To make it even more interesting, you can make teams of three to four cyclists for each graph. All the team members will be in contact with each other through Bluetooth devices. One member will constantly monitor the graph and let other members know whether they are moving at the right speed.

Apart from graphing, students here would also master teamwork, strategy, and precision.

5. Plot it out

‘Plot it out’ is all about plotting the points in graph sheets while teachers dictate the data. Data can be based on research that is relevant to the daily life of high schoolers.

For Example:

Smoking cigarettes VS asthma and risk of lung cancer

Days after quitting tobacco VS improvement in health

Fast food consumption VS weight

Exercise VS Fitness

Meditation VS emotional mastery

Reading VS intelligence

6. The scatter experiment

Every school has a common area, and this activity involves using that area. Students need to put up a big graph in the common area for this activity and then plot points daily. This is an experiment carried out on finding out whether a correlation exists or not and, if it exists, what its nature is.

It includes-

Coming late to the class vs. Depth of understanding of the topic

Type of breakfast vs. Attentiveness in class

What you are thinking vs. What you are feeling

Students can draw monthly or yearly conclusions based on the data.

7. See the music

Did you know that in a music equalizer, bars at the left represent base, and bars on the right represent treble? It is a histogram of sound frequencies. You can play music in the class and discuss how histogram changes with different types of musical genres. Through this activity, students can learn more on how to use these graphing tools better, and later, when they listen to music at home, they will be able to correlate with what was taught in the class.

8. Favorites’ pie

In this activity, teachers would collect information from students about their favorite genre of movies, favorite leisure time activities, favorite career options, etc. Discuss the data with them and make pie charts based on the data.

For instance, if the sample 100 kids, and 50 like Pasta, then, pasta gets half the pie. Say, 20 liked Curry, it gets short of a quarter chunk of the pie, and ice cream gets the rest of the pie.

Such realistic activities help students understand the various kinds of graphing tools and also teach them how graphs can be used in real life.

9. A grapher’s quiz

This activity begins with teams of three or four. Then, conduct a quiz session where children have to answer questions by interpreting the graphs. The benefit that quizzes have over any other teaching method is that they trigger competitiveness in students, which helps them learn a particular concept. Also, this would be a fun way to check their aptitude. This activity also inculcates teamwork, as students are divided into sets of three/four.

10. Discussion on graphs

Discuss the vast areas of application that graphs enjoy in different fields. From a FitBit watch to a Stock market broker, they are all equipped with graphs. Allow your students to come back to you with more illustrations. This also boosts the creative thinking and critical thinking attributes of a child.

Conclusion

Learning how to read and prepare graphs and charts has long-term utilities, and so, we must encourage our kids to learn graphing. However, the old boring methods can be repulsive. Ultimately, it becomes the job of a teacher to help their students learn it appropriately. This is where they can make use of modern-age teaching methods, including digital tools, which aren’t just effective but fun too. Conducting activities regularly can work wonders for students having difficulty in learning.

Colored and plain printables to teach months of the year can offer a good option for tricking children’s minds into effective learning. Especially to tackle the cases of delayed learning, these printables offer engaging support. We suggest you employ these printables in the following ways to ease the learning process:

A project material: How about printing these charts and engaging children in making cut-outs of the month names? You can give these charts as a do-at-home project where children will paste the months’ names on a drawing sheet and present it in the class.

A readymade reference material: Paste these ‘months of the year’ names printable charts on the cardboard and hang it in the study area as wall-hanging. This simple activity can offer a quick tool to engage children in repetitions whenever they look around in the class. The same trick can be applied to homeschooling as well.

As a quick spelling learning material: Children feel that they are doing some fun activity when they are asked to read from a chart instead of from a book. That is why; the printable charts offer interesting teaching support to drive young children into reading and recalling months’ names often.

A tool for self-directed learning: Printable charts can help children learn the months of the year in a self-directed manner. Since the charts take away the feeling of learning from books, these offer reliable and proven support for self-study. Even as a middle school student, you can refer to these printable charts stored on your devices. Thus, you can use these charts as strategic sight word learning tools and learn the concept the way you feel comfortable.

Early math learners tend to do a lot of mistakes in picking the prime and composite numbers from a given set. A quick trick lies in improving their performance by using these printable charts in a few interesting ways.

Just to give a quick recap of the concept, prime numbers have only two factors – 1 and the number itself. And composite numbers are numbers that may have more than two factors, in addition to 1 and the number itself. With this hint to apply, users can employ our free printables as:

Homework: Fill in the blank prime and composite numbers charts as well as worksheets as a homework activity. We have filled in one number for you to give an idea.

Quick test: Give a quick test to the students by asking them to fill. Even prefilled charts can be used to do ‘identify prime and composite numbers’ activity. Put the chart & worksheets in front of the student and ask him to put his finger on the prime or composite numbers when asked. It works as a good mental workout.

Classroom intervention material: Acquaint students with prime and composite numbers by giving them quick reference material. You can do a quick number talk session also, by asking them the strategy behind picking the number as prime or composite.

Progressive learning tool: Students who need extra effort in grasping numbers can start with prime number charts’ 2-3 lines only and then keep increasing the challenge cumulatively by covering more rows. Also, they may start with the prime numbers first, master them, and then move to composite numbers; finally, they can learn to pick both from the given set. When the students are confident with all the prime and composite numbers between 1-100, give them the worksheets to solve. Thus, you can adopt a systematic approach to ingrain this concept in students.

A parent’s journey from introducing kids to numbers to making them a number ninja is not easy. They require solutions that ease the process of introducing numbers to kids. Number charts 1-120 with filled boxes serve as the primary teaching tool. These can serve multiple purposes:

Boost number identification capability: Number charts 1-120 can provide suitable learning support to kids at the early stage. Give daily practice of reading numbers from the charts, speak with them, or rhyme them into poems. Just don’t forget to keep a finger or stick on the number you speak; it boosts number-name association ability!

Teach a thing or two about number sequencing: You can use charts with numbered boxes to acquaint starters with numbers’ sequencing. Provide hints for what comes after, before, and between by spotting the number of the chart. After a simple demo, you can ask children to try themselves.

Guide through the process of dodging numbers: Once kids become comfortable with number sequencing, you can work up their minds into dodging numbers. A simple trick is to hide the corresponding set of numbers to teach dodging by two, three, five, or ten.

Excited to try all these in your next session with number beginners? Great! We bring you here easy-to-use, printable number charts 1-120 with filled boxes to use for hanging on walls or saving on your mobile teaching supports:

Counting is a basic skill that every young learner is expected to master by the end of preschool days. The challenge is to know ways to make counting an easy-peasy activity for the growing kid. Some suggest manipulatives like number line manipulatives, which do have their own set of advantages. However, the need to have some teaching aid or practice material cannot be denied. That is why; I have prepared number line 1-100 charts to help you have a readymade resource to drive a young learner to learn counting and other counting-based concepts.

Uses of number line 1-100 chart

Numbers 1-100 presented in a chart form accomplish various number-based skill-developing purposes, such as:

Learn before, after

Learn to count byy 1s, 2s, and 3s, and so on.

Learn greater than/smaller than

Find odd and even numbers

Learn place values of ones and tens

Learn basic operations like addition and subtraction

With so much to offer, the chart with numbers up to 100 is no less than a wholesome resource for teaching math to little learners. Here is the free printable number line chart 1-100 for classroom practice. You can also download the pdf version with the link given below the respective charts.

How to use 1-100 number line charts?

As a teacher, you need the support of charts, diagrams, models, and other engaging materials to drive interest in young students toward learning. The charts for teaching numbers up to 100 can be used for:

1. Developing number sense routines: You can design a number sense routine around the 1-100 counting chart. Ask the child about how to find the smallest number or to compare two numbers, and other similar questions to help them have a better number sense.

2. Developing number shape identification ability: Writing numbers is important too, apart from sounding them. Number line chart 1-100 can be used to learn number shape and repeated referencing help in reinforcing the shape concept in a more sustainable manner.

3. Do activities based on numbers: Provide kids with activity support for filling in the missing numbers, doing backward counting, and others.

Wrapping Up,

Math is not learned by memorizing. One has to develop mathematical competence to develop a brain that can count, know number meanings and values, and understand the impact of operations that mathematical signs create. There is a growing emphasis on the fact that children should learn to strategize[1] to solve a problem instead of rote memorizing it. Number line charts allow the students to develop a strategy-driven technique to know numbers, their relationships, and operations better through discussions, activities, and quizzes, and become more confident in their approach to using math at a later stage.
