Do your friends often insist on joining them for late-night parties? It is common to come across such instances where students are influenced by the behavior, attitudes, thoughts, and actions of their fellow mates. While certain actions could help students advance academically, others might put undue pressure on them. Some high school students could feel uncomfortable if they choose not to participate in these activities that interest their friends.

We can understand this force or rigorous insisting behavior to follow certain attitudes, beliefs, or ideas as peer pressure. Peer pressure is inevitable and not all such instances are harmful. However, it is important for high schoolers to understand this concept and decode effective ways to deal with it.

In this case, peer pressure games and activities become a helpful tool to increase students’ awareness of such real-world instances in a fun and light-hearted manner. With such games and activities, students get an opportunity to refine their decision-making skills, enabling them to approach such situations with increased confidence. In this article, you will find thoughtful games and activities drafted to empower students and cultivate a resilient mindset when it comes to handling peer pressure.

Helpful peer pressure games and activities for high schoolers

Just as empathy activities allow students to understand feelings, peer pressure activities create a sense of awareness in high schoolers. The below-mentioned activities are perfect to instill confidence and social skills that help them face realistic situations with wisdom.

1. Positive or Negative?

Peer pressure seems to be a daunting concept however, it is not just about harmful instances or forceful situations by peers. Hence, it is important for students to understand the types of peer pressure. This game allows them to be quick at guessing and even sharpens their critical thinking skills.

For this game, ask students to make two different paper cutouts titled Positive and Negative. Divide the students into teams of 2 members each. Two teams compete with each other. Now, present the peer pressure scenario and teams need to raise the paper cutout whichever they think fits the situation. For example, if the situation is – your friend is forcing you to read a new book he has purchased then this is categorized as Positive peer pressure.

2. Peer Pressure Quiz

A quiz is one of the helpful ways to indulge students in critical thinking. It empowers them to think out of the box and filter their thoughts in the right manner. For this activity, divide the students into teams of 2 members each. Two teams shall compete against each other.

Prepare a quiz and distribute this paper to both teams. The teams are supposed to brainstorm and find solutions for all questions. These questions can include scenarios, multiple choice, or even short answers. The team that completes the quiz first with the maximum number of correct answers wins the game.

3. What’s your Excuse?

At times, peer pressure could be simple things like sneaking out or bunking a class. While this is not categorized as something very harmful, it still is peer pressure for students who do not want to indulge in it. For this game, students need to be super creative and think of the best excuses.

To begin with the game, read aloud any peer pressure scenario. Now, divide students into teams of 3 members each. Two teams compete with each other. Present the scenario and each team thinks of different yet creative excuses. Let the other students decide which team gives the best excuses. The one with the best excuses wins the game.

4. Role Play

When students understand peer pressure by stepping into such situations, they are more likely to decode the essential steps to be taken in such cases. This activity focuses on teaching students how to handle peer pressure without feeling guilty about not participating in it. For this activity, divide students into teams.

Now, write such situations that constitute peer pressure like forcing someone to smoke or bullying someone online. Assign a topic to each team and they need to showcase the scene by playing roles. Other students in the class can share their feedback, personal experiences, or solutions after the act.

5. Observe your actions

In today’s era of pervasive technology and social media, getting influenced by others is very common in teenagers. However, getting influenced by peers is much more evident. Students sometimes find themselves compelled to engage in certain activities just to show off and look superior, regardless of whether these activities align with their best interests.

Another facet of this scenario entails that students might also be aware of the activities that are wrong but feel pressured to partake in them or willingly choose to do so. Now this calls for making them aware of the right actions to take and letting them know that they can talk to their parents, teachers, or guardians in any such situation.

To carry out the activity, ask students to observe their day carefully in terms of what they’re doing in school or anywhere they are. Then they need to carefully think if any such activity they’re enrolling under any kind of pressure. Students have to make a note of it. Instruct them to think of answers to certain questions which can be;

What is the activity?
What do you think, is it right or wrong from any context/perspective?
Are you doing it under any kind of pressure or is it your own choice?
If you feel you’ve been pressured for the same, are you still interested in doing so?
If you’re interested, then what it is that is stopping you from going ahead?

Students just have to note such instances in slips without mentioning their names. Teachers can then collect them and choose a day to read these anonymous slips in front of students for which other students and teachers can share their insights. This might help that particular child to know more about the same. If he/she still feels confused then they can approach the teacher or counselor for the same.

Often, students may find it difficult to open up and share their thoughts or concerns with others. This activity aims to provide students with a safe space to freely discuss any matter that’s on their minds, without any fear of judgment or hesitation. In doing so, teachers will have the opportunity to gain deeper insights into their students’ lives, enabling them to explore ways to offer comprehensive support and assistance.

6. Poster Making

Providing creative freedom is one of the ways to empower students to voice their opinions. Sometimes, all it needs is a unique way of expression to let students understand themselves and others better. For this activity, give a large sheet of paper to high schoolers and direct them to make a poster.

In this activity, students can sketch, draw, or paint their ideas related to peer pressure. They may also use different quotes or sayings to highlight their perspectives. Once the posters are made, allow students to explain their concepts to everyone in the class. For example, they may talk about cyberbullying, cultural diversity, or discrimination among students.

7. The 3 Choices

Acts of peer pressure are not a thoughtful process. Such situations generally occur all of a sudden and students certainly do not get time to process everything. Hence, this activity helps high schoolers make wise decisions whenever they face different acts of peer pressure from their fellow mates.

For this activity, make three different flashcards – IGNORE, SPEAK UP, and SAY NO. Place these cards on a table and present a situation that involves peer pressure. After this, invite each student to choose any of the choices. They need to explain their choice and let other students learn different ways to tackle peer pressure. Problem-solving activities like this one help high schoolers become better decision-makers.

8. Impromptu Speech

Peer pressure is a broad concept and high schoolers sure need to discover the various aspects of it. Some acts of peer pressure can be negative while some can also be positive. In this case, this activity helps students express their views in a quick manner thereby enhancing their critical thinking skills.

For this activity, write different topics that involve peer pressure and put them in the jar. Now, each student selects a topic from the jar and gets 2 minutes of preparation. They may share their experiences, any incidents they might have read about, or even ways to prevent it. Since it is impromptu, there’s no wrong or right. Make sure to involve students in a healthy discussion later. Social skills activities like this enable students to express their views with confidence and clarity.

Why are peer pressure games and activities important?

High schoolers are likely to come across various situations when they feel pressured to be involved in some activity or do specific tasks. That’s when games and activities help them figure out the right thing. It is evidently important to provide knowledge and let them discover this subject.

Peer pressure games and activities prepare students to identify and resolve their concerns. When individuals are aware of situations, only then they can analyze, think, and take the necessary steps.

Games and activities also create a sense of awareness among students which helps them decide the right course of action. It not only inspires them to stand for the right but also motivates them to spread the word among others.

Indulging in such games and activities enhances their decision-making skills. It enables them to think, assess the potential solutions, and finally arrive at the most feasible decision.

They also develop good communication skills and learn to deal with different types of people. It eventually helps develop a problem-solving mindset.

Peer pressure games and activities promote acceptance and perspective-seeking behavior. It develops empathy and prepares students for real-world situations.

Wrapping up

Peer pressure is indeed an important aspect of growing up. As high schoolers, students need to develop the right skills and confidence to handle different types of circumstances. With the help of the above-mentioned games and activities, teachers can create an effective learning environment where students not only learn but also freely express themselves. Games and activities act as the catalyst for boosting the morale of students as well as creating a safe space for exploring the vital aspect of handling peer pressure.

Imagine going to a grocery store just to find out all the items are mixed and randomly arranged on the shelves. It will become so challenging to find the items you wanted to purchase and you will probably leave the store fuming and no shopping done. Keeping things organized and sorted is indeed very necessary and is fundamental to living.

Keeping things organized is not only a basic life skill but a concept similar to this is found in mathematics also. Set theory, a mathematical concept, represents how we organize similar things in a well-defined manner. Set theory is taught to kids generally in 6th to 8th grade. Though it is an easy concept to grasp and apply, it can be a little challenging for some students.

To supplement your learning & teaching experience, in this post, we have listed some fun games and activities that are related to sets for children to make their understanding of sets clear.

Set games and activities for children

Understanding Set theory is highly important as it lays the foundation for understanding various higher-level mathematical concepts, such as statistics and probability. Below is the list of some set games and activities to help children attain mastery of Set Theory and its applications.

1. Sets out of Waste

In this activity, we are going to organize the collected waste based on some parameters. It’s like identifying which waste item resembles the most with which other items and placing them under a similar set. This activity can be done in both groups and individually.

Ask students to collect the waste material from their surroundings and bring it to the classroom. Divide the children into groups of 3- 5 students. Mix the material of all children in the group and ask them to form the sets from that material. The waste material could be discarded pencils, colors, newspapers, pens, etc.

The group that will make the maximum number of sets in less time will win. Further, the teacher can put up questions regarding the formed set to assess the kid’s knowledge.

2. Venn Diagram Activity

It is a fun Venn Diagram activity that will help children understand sets and Venn diagrams. For this activity, educators need to make some chits on which some questions are written. Ensure answers to these questions fall only into two broad ranges. And some can fall into both. For instance, answers will lead to the names of fruits and vegetables or movie names and song names.

Now, you can draw a big Venn Diagram on the floor. Ask kids to pick the chits, answer the question, and stand in the area appropriate for the answer. Some kids will receive common answers so they will be standing in the overlapping area.

It is a great activity to show visual representation of sets to the kids. Additionally, educators can ask questions to children about their positions and related to sets in general.

3. Card sorting game

The Card Sorting Game is another wonderful activity that focuses on arranging elements in their respective area. For this activity, all you need is a deck of cards with some pictures on it. Pictures could be of shapes, fruits, vegetables, etc. You can either purchase a deck with such images or make one for yourself.

Now, ask the children to draw the cards one by one and place them in their respective areas. You can again make Venn Diagrams or simply stack them on the table. To further strengthen the kid’s knowledge about sets, educators can ask them questions.

4. Set through Storytelling

Storytelling activities are not only a great tool to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary, and other related skills, rather they could also be used to teach some math concepts. Set through Storytelling is a fun activity that will keep children engaged and will provide greater clarity of the concept sets.

For the implementation of the activity, you need a story. As an educator, you can make up a story of your own or choose an existing one. Ensure, your chosen story has various elements that can be grouped. Now, narrate the story to the children. Remember to emphasize every key detail and the elements.

Now, once you have narrated the story, ask the children to find the common elements from the story and note them down. The child who finds the maximum number of correct elements grouped to form a set will win.

5. Set Scavenger Hunt

Set Scavenger Hunt activity is a great outdoor activity that will keep children physically fit and their knowledge of sets clear. There is no material required for this activity, students can use the things already present in the outdoor field.

In this activity, students will hunt different objects and then will place them under similar categories. Plan a scavenger hunt for children and ask them to find different things and categorize them. Categories could be colors, shapes, man-made vs. natural, living vs. non-living, etc.

Teachers can make a group of 3-5 students for this activity and set a timer, for instance, let’s say for 30 minutes. In 30 minutes, whichever group made the maximum number of accurate sets will win.

6. Set Puzzles

In the Set Puzzles activity, all you need is a simple puzzle or a board game and some set-related questions, such as making a set of prime numbers to 20 or writing all the numbers divisible by 2. This activity can be played by 3-5 students in one run.

Once you have your puzzle board and questions ready, ask students to roll the dice. The students will then be asked one set-related question. If the student gets the answer right, he/she is allowed to move in the board and if the student is unable to get the answer right, he/she won’t move forward in the board. Hence, to win the game, kids need to get the maximum number of answers correct.

7. Set through Arts

Another fun and creative set activity is Set through Arts. This activity can be done in many ways. For instance, educators can simply ask students to bring their artwork to the class and organize it according to some chosen criteria. The criteria could be the form of paintings, such as mandalas, doodlings, etc., or based on coloring, such as watercolors, pencil sketches, etc.

Another way to carry out this activity in the classroom is by asking students to draw something. It’s up to kids what they want to draw and how they want to draw. Once they are done with their drawings, ask them to categorize the drawings of the whole class based on some criteria. We can have similar criteria here, which are forms of painting or coloring. It is a unique way to teach kids the concept of sets.

8. Set Relay Race

A Set Relay Race is a great outdoor activity that will help reinforce the concept of sets in kids effectively. For this activity, you need a relay race area, where barriers are in terms of some objects. In other words, educators will set the barriers or objects based on some categories. Students have to collect the objects and sort the objects based on the criteria and then whoever students will finish the race first will win.

This activity can be implemented in many ways. Such as, students can either first collect all the objects, complete the race, and then sort the objects. Whoever will do this first will win. On the other hand, students can collect an object, sort it based on its category, then collect a second object, sort it, and so on. Whichever student will complete the race in this manner will win.

Concluding thoughts

Set theory is crucial to keep mathematical elements and numbers organized and sorted. Without sets in mathematics, we would have jumbled and unorganized numbers whose analysis and interpretation would have been nothing short of a challenge. Hence, these set games and activities are a fun way to learn a highly crucial mathematical concept.

You will find various examples of set theory in our daily life, hence, implementing these activities in the classroom or outdoors is super easy. Additionally, you can easily customize these activities to match a kid’s needs or age/grade level. So go ahead and pick your favorite set game or activity and help kids master the concept in a fun way.

Everything around us is made up of atoms and molecules. From the water you are sipping to the metal you are holding, everything is the combination of different atoms and molecules that results in the formation of the compounds. The combining force that links one atom or molecule from another, is known as chemical bonding.

While there are many ways to teach students the crux of chemical bonding, interactive activities, and online games can provide students a visual clarity in understanding the bonds and how they are combined to form compounds.

In this post, we will cover some of the fun and engaging chemical bond online games that are thoughtfully designed to provide students with a hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the concept.

Engaging chemical bonding online games for kids

Chemical bondings are of two types, that are ionic bonding and covalent bonding. Ionic bonds are formed between ions that have different charges. That is, no two ions with the same charge (either positive or negative) will combine, rather an ion with a positive charge will only combine with an ion of negative charge and vice versa.

On the other hand, covalent bonds are formed when two atoms share electrons to attain stability by fulfilling the stable electronic configuration in the outermost shell of the atom.

Given that, some engaging and fun chemical bonding activities are given below-

1. Interactive Periodic Table

The ‘Interactive Periodic Table’ is a complete package of a game that not only targets ionic bonding between different ions to form a compound but also dives deep into the history of atoms and molecules and educates kids on the complexity of the periodic table.

Instructions:

In the ‘Group’ section of the game, students have to first go through the written content to get a better idea of the different groups of the periodic table. The groups are divided into multiple sections, such as alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, noble gasses, halogens, carbon family, etc.

Once the students have an idea of all the groups present in the periodic table, the ionic bonding game begins, where they have to combine ion(s) to form a compound.

Each correctly built molecule will be awarded with 2 scores, a skipped attempt will result in a reduction of 1 score, and an incorrect attempt will lead to the loss of half a score.

After each correct answer, a use or application of the formed compound will be shown on the screen.

The complete game also includes other periodic table-related games, such as atomic basics, isotopes, introduction (history), it’s Elementary, what’s in the box, and tests your skills. Each game has study material and then an interactive game for the kids.

On the game screen, students will be asked to form a specific salt to create.

Cation and anion of the salt will be provided along with other atom ions to create confusion for learners.

In the bonding arena, students have to drag both cation and anion to form the salt. They can drag the cation or anion as many times as required to form a salt. Ensure that no bond is left incomplete.

Once students have correctly formed the bond, they will be provided with three formulas for the salt, out of which only one is correct for the formed salt.

Choose the correct formula to move ahead in the game.

Grammar lessons can be daunting as each concept has too many rules and techniques to follow. When it comes to the concept of gerunds and infinitives, it often creates confusion about how to identify them along with their correct usage.

Gerunds are identified by the letters ‘-ing’ following the root verb, such as dancing, singing, etc., whereas the infinitives are best identified by the word ‘to-’ before the main verb, both of which form the major part of everyday conversations. Theoretical understanding does justice to the topic however, a little fun goes a long way in addressing the core issues students might face with the concept.

Grammar games and activities are popularly known for adding humor to teaching. That is why these fun gerund and infinitive games and activities are a treasure for the captivating attention of students. With the usage of these games and activities, teachers and educators can better introduce the concepts, rules, and sentence formation techniques. In this article, you can find thoughtful games and activities that help students discover the topic comprehensively.

To or ing? Interesting games and activities for gerund and infinitive

To ease the learning process and help students not only grasp faster but retain the concepts learned, given below are some light-hearted and interactive gerunds and infinitives games and activities to explore and incorporate in the lesson plans.

1. Subject or Object?

Gerunds are used in different ways and can act as subject or object in a statement. This game allows students to understand the difference between both.

For this game, divide the students into teams of 2 members each.

As the game begins, use different sentences for students to identify whether the gerund is used as a subject or an object.

For example, you can use the following sentences.

Painting is a good hobby.

Sharon loves dancing in the hall.

In the first sentence, painting is used as a subject while dancing is used as an object.

The team with the maximum number of right answers wins the game.

As this game involves recognizing gerunds as a subject or an object, it helps students understand the basic rule of placing them. It also improves collaboration among learners.

2. The Verb Analysis!

Infinitives are best known by the inclusion of the word “to“; however, this rule does not apply similarly to all verbs. This game focuses on clarifying the specific verbs and creating awareness about the subject matter.

For this game, divide students into teams of 3 members each

Write many verbs on cards and put these cards in a box.

Make sure to use a combination of verbs that can have the inclusion of the word “to” before and after the word.

Now, each team picks one card and instantly replies if the word to can be placed before or after the verb

For example, if the verb is promised, then a sentence can be formed by using the infinitive after the word, i.e. I promise to return your book.

Similarly, an infinitive can be placed before the verb if the verb is ‘get‘, i.e. I tried to get the tickets for the show.

You may also ask students to form sentences and the team to have maximum correct answers, win the game.

Such a game helps students understand the practical placement of infinitives thereby clarifying their doubts. It also strengthens their grammatical understanding.

3. The Conversion Game!

Gerunds and infinitives often form an important part of the statement. This game allows students to fully explore the conversion from gerunds to infinitives and vice versa.

For this game, every student gets a time of 1 minute and has to convert maximum sentences during this time.

Write many sentences on chits and put them in a bowl.

Every student picks a chit and reads it aloud

If the sentence has gerunds, it should be converted to infinitives and vice versa.

For example, if the sentence is – Pinto loves to sing then the converted sentence shall be – Pinto loves singing.

The student who gives the maximum number of correct answers wins the game.

Sentence-building activities like this develop the critical thinking abilities of students. It also helps with differentiating between the two concepts smartly.

4. Identify Who?

It is important for students to understand the difference between the two concepts. They might get confused and this activity allows students to understand the concepts easily.

For this activity, involve students in creative work.

Ask them to make two placards with the titles – Gerunds or Infinitives.

Now, read out any statement that includes either of them.

After the sentence, students can raise anyone’s placard based on their understanding of the concept.

You can use similar sentences below.

Kiara often likes dancing with her sister.

John promised to see me after school.

You can also explain to students who may pick the wrong placards and clarify their doubts right at that moment.

As students pick their choices purely through listening to the statements, they are more likely to develop active listening skills. It also empowers their learning and builds confidence in the subject matter.

5. Draw it Right!

As the name suggests, this game is all about letting students unleash their creativity by drawing. It helps students firmly connect with the idea and clarifies their doubts.

For this game, have two different bowls: one bowl has verbs and the other has two options – Gerund and Infinitive.

Now, divide the students into teams of 2 members each.

Each team gets a time limit of 2 minutes to play the game.

One student picks the verb while the other is responsible for sentence formation.

Here’s the twist, The student who knows the verb has to draw it on the board and the other student has to guess the verb.

The other student then picks any one of two options and forms a sentence accordingly.

For example, if the verb is cooking, a plate, juice, or a cake can be drawn.

Similarly, if the student picks gerund, the sentence can be – My mother enjoys cooking her favorite pasta.

The team that gets the maximum number of correct sentences wins the game.

Guessing through drawing is truly an interesting opportunity to understand the concept beyond theoretical knowledge. It helps students decode the essence of the subject matter and even be quick to win.

6. Flip Bingo

Bingo is a fun activity however, this activity is about a strange twist. Students get an opportunity to learn about both concepts simultaneously.

For this activity, make a table on the blackboard with 5 rows and 5 columns.

Make sure each box has a gerund or an infinitive in all different forms.

Now, write statements on a sheet of paper with a blank where any of these words shall complete the statement.

Divide the students into teams with each team having 2 members.

Teams need to read the statement and circle the answer in their specified color chalks.

The activity ends when the entire bingo is all circled and the statements find their correct answers.

Students get an opportunity to filter their understanding when they have too many options in hand. Such an activity ensures that every student gets enough time to think, evaluate, and circle the correct answers.

7. Look and Guess

Most of the infinitives can be learned well when they are practiced with sentences. This activity allows students to explore the topic in a creative way.

For this activity, ask students to sit in a circle facing inward.

Now, write different infinitives on placards which are easy to act on.

Put the placards in a bowl and play music while students pass a ball.

As the music stops, the activity begins with the student who has the ball.

The student picks an infinitive and nominates the next student for the guessing challenge.

The other student needs to draft a sentence with the infinitive and then pick the placard.

For example, if the infinitive is to eat then the students can act like he/she is eating.

Similarly, the other student spontaneously thinks of a sentence which could be – I really love to eat chocolate brownies.

With the inclusion of various infinitives and sentence building, students also learn how to identify more and more verbs. The essence of acting adds fun and everyone gets an equal chance to participate.

8. The Gerund Poster!

This innovative activity is the one that broadens the mindset of students towards the subject of gerunds. All you need is to print many different pictures and put them in a box.

For this activity, students need to get glue and a large mount board.

They need to get to the box and select any of the pictures that they feel fit the gerund.

After this, they need to create a gerund poster that has relatable images.

For example, if the image is of a girl dancing, they need to write the gerund dancing right below the picture.

Every picture can be a verb however, students need to identify those gerunds and write them in the ing form.

Invite an open discussion once everyone has made the poster.

The inclusion of such visual perception activities and games often helps students recognize the core of the concept effectively. It builds a strong connection with gerunds and their practical usage.

Wrapping up

Gerunds and infinitives are a part of reading as well as writing. When students know the application of these concepts, they can better form sentences and improvise their overall verbal communication capabilities. Using games and activities is one of the helpful ways to strengthen understanding, clarify doubts, and identify the loopholes in delivering the subject matter. The above-mentioned games and activities create a cheerful atmosphere and allow students to learn in a collaborative environment.

If apple is “apples” in its plural form, then why is a cherry not “cherrys” in the plural form?

Such intriguing questions are common in the minds of little learners. When they explore the topic of singular and plural words, they are most likely to associate the words with the letter S as it is one of the easiest ways to convert.

However, students must decode the usage of different suffixes used for making plural forms. It can be super confusing for little learners to understand the context if the fundamentals are not clear. It is thereby important to equip learners with the right teaching methods that help them understand the crux of the subject matter.

Besides theoretical understanding, games and activities help you teach different suffixes including s, es, ies, ves, and so on without compromising on the fun factor. Games and activities make it easy and exciting for students to equip themselves with the common rules of making plural forms from singular words. Given that, this article will take you through well-designed games and activities that focus on decoding the essence of singular and plural words in various ways.

Fun singular and plural games and activities

Singular and plural games and activities are an innovative way to teach the concept where students get an opportunity to engage and exchange learning. The below-mentioned games and activities are designed to provide a helpful way of decoding the concept with understanding and critical thinking.

1. Picture Decode

Students are certain to understand the concept of singular and plural when they see pictures. For this game, divide the students into teams of 3 members each. Now, print many different pictures that have singular and plural features in them. Two teams compete together in this game.

Show the teams the picture and whichever team raises their hand, gets to answer. They need to decide if the picture represents a singular or plural and the right answer gets one point. Similarly, show 10-15 pictures, and the team with maximum points wins the game. Through such a game, students also increase their visual thinking abilities. Visual discrimination activities like this broaden the imagination and thinking capabilities of little learners.

2. Challenge Me!

When students compete with each other, they are more likely to explore the subject matter with depth and precision. This game involves challenging each other and decoding the crux of singular and plural words. For this game, divide the students into teams of 2 members each and introduce the concept of regular nouns where s is used to make them into plural forms.

Two teams compete together and have to be quick here. For this, Team A starts with any singular/plural word and Team B needs to say the opposite in the minimum possible time. For example, if Team A says car, Team B needs to say cars to get a score. After the first round, the opposite team gives a word. Calculate the score and declare the winner at the end. They can use words like fan, pillow, house, fruit, or board. This game will help students to not only think about the answer which is by adding “s” at the end of the word but also think of the words whose plurals are in this form.

3. Quiz Begins!

Quizzes are always fun as they test the understanding of students with reference to the subject matter. It is an interesting game that helps students choose the correct option and win it in the minimum possible time. For this game, prepare a quiz with incomplete blanks.

Distribute the quiz to all students and allow students to read everything. They need to choose the right word indicating singular or plural depending on the statement. Collect the quiz and calculate the scores. The student who completes the quiz with the right answers wins the game.

4. Find the Match!

Matching activities and games help students create relatability with the subject. It also allows them to work in a collaborative environment where they exchange ideas. For this activity, you will need 2 sets of cards. One set shall have singular words ending with S, CH, SH, X, or Z and the other set shall have plural words in the picture format. Explain to them how these words have es as the plural form at the end.

Begin the activity by making students stand in a circle. Let each student select one card which they should not show to other students. Play the music and let them dance around. Now, pause the music and let students find their pairs. For example, if the word is brush, they need to find a card with a picture of brushes to make the pair. Some of the words you can use are dish, match, box, quiz or bus.

5. Beyond the S!

Singular and plural words are often easily taught with the usage of the letter S. It becomes easier for students to identify singular or plural words simply by recognizing S in many words. However, this activity focuses on offering knowledge beyond such words to create a comprehensive learning environment.

For this activity, write many singular words on the blackboard that do not need the letter S for the plural forms. Now, invite each student to write the correct plural form or say it aloud to the class. For example, if the singular word is child, students should say children in the plural form. Similarly, you can do this for plural words too where students write the singular form.

6. Plural Kingdom

Singular and plural words are way beyond everyday language. It is crucial to teach the concept with a complete understanding of various aspects. For this activity, you need to prepare a simple presentation and attach mixed pictures of singular words. Use words ending with Y, F, or Fe to equip them with the necessary knowledge. Make a set of placards with the plural suffixes – ves and ies.

As the activity begins, divide the students into a team of 2 members each. Now, show the picture on the screen. The teams need to answer as per their turn with the help of placards.

For example, if it is a cherry, students need to raise the pla card with “ies”, and if the word is “knife”, then the student needs to raise the pla card “ves”. Assist them wherever needed to make it an interactive activity.

7. Scavenger Hunt

The scavenger hunt is a popular activity where students search for different elements in their surroundings. However, here is the twisted form for this activity. In this, prepare many flashcards and spread them across the classroom in different areas. Make sure that these are all pictures of singular or plural words.

Now, assign each student a set of 5-7 words in a list. They need to roam around and find the pictures that match the word. For an extra challenging phase, you may assign the same words to many students and see who finds it first. For example, if the word is “foot”, they need to find a picture of feet. The activity ends when all students find the flashcards and make the right pairs according to their lists.

8. Sort it Out!

Children might get confused as there are many suffixes needed to make singular words into plural forms. For this activity, you need to write the suffixes on the board and make different columns for the same. For example, the suffixes can be – s, es, ies, and ves. Now, have a different set of pictures of singular words with their names below and arrange them in a box.

Divide the students into teams of 2 members each. After this, each team picks a picture from the box and sticks it to the column of suffix that best matches it. For example, if the picture is of a raspberry, they need to decode the plural form of raspberries and stick the same picture under the ies column.

Final word

Games and activities form the base of learning when students are newly introduced to a grammatical concept. The concept of singular and plural words is confusing due to their conversion from one to another. The above-mentioned games and activities help create a fun learning environment where students can freely raise queries and clarify their doubts. It also helps develop critical thinking, creativity, and grammatical skills for enhancing language and communication.

Wh-questions is an interesting educational game that helps children practice different wh-questions in a fun and challenging way. The different wh-questions that the game deals with are- what, when, why, where, which, who, whose, whom, and how. The wh-questions game consists of five levels, and with increased levels, the game’s difficulty level keeps increasing. The levels are,

Find the Wh-s (word search)

Match words in memory

Link them up

Choose the wh-s (multiple choice), and

Write the Wh-s (cloze test).

If a player completes a level twice, a bronze medal will be awarded, and a silver medal will be awarded upon completing every level.
4. Kangaroo Boomerang Game

Another fun and highly interesting game to practice questions is the Kangaroo Boomerang Game. The game assists kids in practicing wh-question words, such as what, where, who, why, when, which, and how. The game is a useful tool to equip children on the context and usage of wh-words to form interrogative complete sentences.

As the game starts, you will meet your kangaroo friend with a boomerang in his hand. Once you start playing the game, certain fill-in-the-blank questions will appear on the screen individually, and each question will have four options. You must drag the right option in the blank and press submit. If you get the answer right, the kangaroo will throw the boomerang and successfully catch it, but if you get the answer wrong, the kangaroo will still throw the boomerang but won’t be able to catch it signifying the answer is wrong.

Before the game begins, proper instructions will be provided, and you can drag the options as many times as you want before submitting. It is a beautifully designed game that improves grammatical skills and teaches them the correct use of wh-question words while making sentences.

5. Questions game

‘Questions game’ is a wonderful and complete package of wh-question words which includes how they are used in the sentences, how to contemplate the meaning of the formed sentences, and finally, how to answer the questions. Oh! The game’s last level will even assess all these skills in a challenging yet thrilling manner.

The game has three parts. The first part focuses on how wh-questions are used in different contexts. The second part aims to teach kids how the wh-questions are answered correctly, and the third part is dedicated to assessing all the covered skills. Each part has appealing visuals to maintain the kids’ interest, and the second and third part has a timer to bring the challenging element to the game. However, if a child finds the timer pressurizing, it can be easily removed.

Players can further adjust the game’s difficulty level, and the game extends to more than wh-questions; it covers can, are, do, is, would, etc. type of question words too. It is a suitable game to enhance children’s cognitive and critical thinking skills.

This is a challenging yet interesting game that aims to enhance the memory of young kids and teach them the use of wh-questions words. It is important to be concentrated and highly attentive while playing this game.

The game involves a grid where every piece of the grid is kept with their faces downwards. The player has to click on each piece to reveal the content of the piece. You cannot reveal all the pieces together. Hence, you have to keep in mind which piece has what information. Some pieces have wh-question words written, whereas others pieces have the use of that wh-word. The game is simple; you have to flip two cards that are related to each other at the same time.

It is a cognitively stimulating memory game, requiring active brainstorming and an active mind to play the game.

The game has six game boards dealing with the types of questions including who, what, where, when, and why.

Up to six people can play the game at a time. Each player has to pick one cat pawn, and every cat pawn has a unique color. Players have to roll the foam dice, move the cat markers on the game board, and answer the question correctly written on the board. Whichever cat pawn reaches the finish line first wins!

The game set has an additional wh-question booklet with 420 questions and their answers. Parents or teachers facilitating the game can use these questions along with board game questions to further test the kid’s wh-question knowledge. The additional questions are informative and revolve around basic life activities, such as-

Where do you buy milk?

What does a key open?

Why do people wear shoes?

Who fixes sinks and pipes?

When should you peel a banana?

This is an exciting and interesting game to captivate kids’ attention and enhance their reading skills. The game will help children learn the different uses of “what” types of questions and where they can be applied. It is a self-correcting matchup game suitable for children of age four and above.

The game includes matchup pairs, where different ‘what-type’ questions have been mentioned, and answers to those questions are written on different cards.
4. Wh- Bingo

Another fun and interesting board game for young kids is Wh-Bingo. It is similar to a regular Bingo game with a twist of Wh-questions. It is a great tool to improve children’s reading comprehension and verbal expression skills. Teachers or parents can facilitate the game, and two to six players can play the game in one go.

The game involves six unique front and back bingo boards, and each card is dedicated to a single wh-question, such as who, what, where, when, why, and a combination of each wh-question. Additionally, the game involves 144 Wh calling cards and 200 bingo chips. The cards have different questions written on them, and the bingo board has its answer. The player with the right answer will put their chip on the board, and whoever answers all questions correctly and quickly will win.

It is a unique way to test the children’s knowledge and teach them the different uses of various wh-questions. The attractive visuals on the board also help children relate the answer with some images.

The game involves twenty-seven sets of matchup cards, where 27 different professions are written in a question format, and the answers are represented in visual formats. Kids have to go through each card and match the right pair.

This board game further helps improve visual discrimination skills, expressive and receptive language, and reading skills while fostering the habit of asking and answering questions. Additionally, the game comes with an activity guide to further improve the language skills of the young kids.

6. “Wh” Question Blast Off!

“Wh” Question Blast Off! is an exciting and interactive game with a visually appealing theme to keep kids interested and focused in the game. The game includes an outer space-themed game board and 200 colorful WH-Question playing cards with 40 cards of each wh-question word- who, what, when, where, and why. Additionally, the game has wonderful rockets for playing the game, a dice, and some astronaut pawns.

A maximum of six players can play this game and it can easily be facilitated by educators or parents. To play the game, each player chooses their own astronaut pawn that moves around in outer space orbit. A player will roll the dice and move the marker on the board according to the dice scores. According to the color-coded space on the board where the player’s astronaut pawn will land, the player will have to answer the question. For instance, if the pawn lands on green space, the player has to answer a ‘why’ question.

Each correct answer will permit the player to launch their rocket on the moon. The first player to launch their rocket to the moon ten times will win the game. The game board has bonus spaces available. If the pawn lands on bonus space, a correct answer to a ‘why’ question will result in two rockets launched at the same time. It is a wonderful game to teach children wh-questions and simultaneously improve their language and cognitive skills.

Concluding thoughts

Board games are a fun way to promote learning and interpersonal skills in children. Kids will learn and work on their cooperating skills, active listening, and responding to others’ queries using different types of games.

Wh-questions are a crucial part of our daily conversations which makes it important to master them from a young age. Wh-question board games are a great means to accomplish that, and they come with various benefits to strengthen basic wh-question skills in children and promote active learning.

Asking questions is one of the examples of oral communication skills that are crucial to succeed in life. The art of asking relevant and good questions is a skill that allows us to learn better about the people we interact with and the work we’re involved in. Kids are curious beings and are always asking questions. But adults tend to drop this habit as they grow up.

To brush up on this skill in a fun and light-hearted manner, there are a host of asking questions games, and activities in which adults can get involved. These play-based activities give adults a moment to shift focus from their hectic lives and enjoy some leisure time while building up an essential skill.

In addition to building questioning skills, these games and activities spark creativity, start conversations, and give people an opportunity to interact with one another at a deeper level. So, whether you are at an official gathering, your friend’s birthday party, or a community event, there is always scope for including question games and activities so adults can forget about their commitments for some time and connect with each other in fun, creative ways.

Interactive asking questions games and activities for adults to enjoy

1. Blindfold Game

The first game on our list is the blindfold game. Have all adults stand in a circle. Invite one of them to the center and blindfold them using a scarf. The person should now turn around a few times, point to a person standing in the circle, and ask a question.

The person who is pointed at must now give an answer, listening to which the blindfolded person should guess who the person is. If their guess is correct, they continue in the game, or else they are eliminated. The game continues with another person coming to the center and taking on the role of a questioner.

2. What’s The Question?

Question games usually involve one person asking a question and the other person giving the answer. Bringing a twist to this question-answer format is the game we call “What’s the Question?” This can be played as a partner or team game.

One participant from a team comes forward and shares an “answer.” For example, they could say, “Two.” Now the members of the other team must guess the question, whose answer is “two.” Questions like “How many ears do you have?” or “How many pets do you have?” can be relevant questions. Teams get three chances to guess the question and get a point if they get it correct. The game continues until one team scores 20 points to be declared the winner.

3. Beach Ball Questions

Buy an inexpensive inflatable beach ball and write the names of all game participants on it using a permanent marker. Everyone can either stand in a circle or spread out chairs to stay seated facing one another. The game begins when one player tosses the ball to another player. The toss continues until the music stops.

The person who has the ball checks whose name on the ball their thumb is pointing at. They can ask a question of their choice to the respective person who is mandated to give an answer. If they prefer not to give an answer, they are out of the game. The person who answers all the questions and remains after all other participants are eliminated wins the challenge.

4. 21 Questions

Here is a classic asking questions game you can play in any setting, like an office meetup, a family gathering, or any other social event. This game allows adults to get to know each other better and reflects on how people’s preferences and thoughts differ. Prepare a set of 21 questions and write them on Q-cards. Drop these cards in a box or jar and give them a nice mix. Have the participants gather in a circle.

One participant picks a card and reads out the question. Now all other participants must share their answers as quickly as possible, one after the other. Players will realize how answers vary for the simplest of questions, and that’s what makes every person different. Try to include questions that have a one-word answer so everyone can say their answers right away and there are no wait times. Some ideas include:

What’s your favorite color?

If you’re allowed to take one pet home, which one would you pick?

Which vacation destination is at the top of your bucket list?

If you could have only one superpower, what would it be?

Which song can you listen to several times without getting bored?

5. Would You Rather

This is another fun question game that can spark conversations and turn a dull, boring meetup into a lively event. Would you rather involve asking questions that present the answerer with two alternatives, and they have to pick one of them? But mind you! The choices are not easy, so one has to really put thought into them before giving an answer.

You can have the names of players on cards and pull out two cards at a time to decide who will ask the question and who will give the answer. Or if you have fewer people, they can gather in a circle and spin a bottle to decide the two people who will exchange the question and answer. A couple of questions one can ask while playing this game are:

Would you rather jump off a cliff or a bridge?

Would you rather eat sticky food or slimy food?

Would you rather lose your cell phone or your wallet?

Would you rather lose your sense of touch or your sense of smell?

Would you rather be the most intelligent person or the most attractive person on earth?

6. The Crossword Challenge

Crosswords are fun yet challenging word puzzles we find in newspapers and magazines. But in this asking-questions activity, participants create their own puzzles. Instead of having sentence clues to solve the puzzle, participants use questions as clues. To begin this partner activity, hand over a sheet of blank crossword puzzle template to each pair.

The pair will now write clues in the form of questions for the spaces present in the puzzle. The questions must be such that their answers fit precisely into the crossword puzzle. After every pair finishes creating question clues for the puzzle, they swap their sheets with another team, which then tries to solve the puzzle by finding answers to the questions and writing them down on the crossword.

7. Have You Ever

Here is an exciting and dynamic activity to get people off their chairs and start moving. If you’re in a large room or outdoors, designate one wall or side as ‘yes’ and the opposite wall or side as ‘no.’ Have the participants stand in a straight line equidistant from both walls.

The facilitator now asks “Have you ever…” questions to the participants. Participants whose answer is ‘yes’ run toward the ‘Yes’ wall or side, and those with the answer ‘no’ run toward the opposite side. As the activity continues, people get to know each other’s answers by observing which side they are running to. A few questions to add to your list of questions are:

Have you ever lied about your age?

Have you ever received a parking ticket?

Have you ever forgotten your partner’s birthday?

Have you ever taken up a job to be with your best friend?

Have you ever been on a cruise?

8. Questions Bingo

Here’s an activity with a fun twist on traditional bingo. Create a bingo sheet with a variety of questions a day or two before the activity is scheduled. You can include a few gratitude icebreaker questions if you want.

Give a sheet to every participant, and let the activity begin! Participants must ask questions mentioned on the sheet to each other and strike off the questions they receive answers to. The activity ends when every person has struck off all the questions on their sheet. And by the end, all participants are a little more aware of one another’s personal and professional details. Question ideas to add to the bingo sheet are:

Do you like to travel?

What was your first job like?

What is your source of motivation?

What’s more important: family time or better compensation?

If you could be an animal for a day, who would you like to be and why?

9. Picture Prompt Activity

It’s not easy to spot details in pictures that have a lot of things going on. Considering this fact, there is another activity you can do with a group of adults. Browse an image from the Internet that showcases a lot of things. It could be a picture of a busy street, a marketplace, or a carnival. Download and print the image in poster size and put it on a wall.

Call upon one adult and have them ask a question whose answer is present in the image. For example, they could ask, “What’s a sweet treat kids love to eat?” for the image of cotton candy present in the picture of a carnival. Other adults look through the picture to find the answer to the question. The person who raises their hand first gets a chance to answer. Continue the activity until every adult gets an opportunity to present a question to everyone.

10. Themes in a Box

Another partner activity for building communication skills that is suitable for any type of setting is Themes in a Box. Write the names of different themes on small square paper cards and put them in a box. You can include themes like family, friends, work, travel, spirituality, dreams, food, and more.

Partners sit comfortably, pick out cards one at a time, and ask each other questions based on the theme written on the card. They continue asking questions and giving answers until they have covered all the theme cards. Isn’t this a great activity to get to know different aspects of each other’s lives?

Wrapping up,

Games and activities are great means of encouraging playful interactions among adults. By getting involved in the act of posing and answering questions, adults not only enjoy playful interactions but also sharpen their communication skills, ignite their intrinsic curiosity, and develop stronger connections. So the next time you have an all-adult meetup, you know how to engage everyone and get conversations flowing.

You can add in some fun brain teasers along with a few activities we have mentioned above. It doesn’t matter which question game or activity you decide upon, people will surely have a good time and leave with a better understanding of one another, which will help strengthen their relationships now and in the future.
