The above-mentioned gratitude journaling prompts are a wonderful tool to develop and nurture gratitude in little ones. In addition to these prompts, we have curated a list of some activities that can be done along with these journaling prompts or separately, as kids prefer, to foster gratefulness in kids. The activities involve- 

1. Gratitude Jar 

A simple activity where children need a glass jar, preferably with a lid of medium size, and some colorful slips of paper. Children have to write anything they’re grateful for on a sheet of paper, fold it several times, and collect it in a jar. If not daily, this activity can be done thrice a week or maybe once a week. After six months or a year, kids can reflect on all the notes collected in the jar and cherish their gratitude-filled year. 

Alternatively, if you wish to do this activity along with your journaling, you can write a take-away note from your journaling entry and add it to your jar. After a suitable time gap, you can reflect on your entries. 

2. Act of appreciation 

A simple yet effective activity to help children understand the importance of gratitude in real life. In this activity, little kids have to plan an act of kindness for the day, how they will initiate it and actually do it. The act could be small or big and/or simple or complex.

The main aim is to teach kids the importance of kindness from a young age and foster gratitude in them. To get more clarity about their act, children can write about it in their journals in one or two lines. It will make the idea of doing something good more concrete in a kid’s mind and will help them achieve better insight into the same. 

3. Gratitude affirmations 

Positive affirmations go a long way in fostering goodwill and appreciation. Here, children simply have to repeat the gratitude-filled affirmations daily. We suggest you speak those affirmations out loud so that you can hear them yourself. Additionally, along with your gratitude journaling entries, you can write them down to manifest them. Kids can have a single affirmation repeated daily or as many as they want. The goal is to engage in positive self-talk and foster acts of gratitude. 

4. Thank you notes 

A creative activity that will not only foster gratitude in kids but will also strengthen interpersonal relationships. Simply, children need some small colorful slips of paper, a bulletin board, and some pins. Encourage kids to write a note daily for some other person thanking them for their act of kindness.

Children can sign their names on the notes or skip it, as per their wish, and pin those notes on the bulletin board. This thankful activity can be replicated at home also, where kids have to write a note for a family member and pin it on their board.  

5. Gratitude with colors 

Let’s have a color for the week. Suppose, blue. What children have to do is write a gratitude note or journal entry based on a blue object. It could be the sky, water, their favorite blue toy, or anything. The only rule is to stick to the color. A unique and creative activity that will help to broaden a kid’s perspective and will help them to focus on things otherwise left unnoticed. Parents or educators can select a color for kids on a weekly or daily basis. 

6. Moment of reflection 

Having some time for yourself in a day is important to gather your thoughts and achieve a clear mindset. Find a quiet corner at your home, have your favorite beverage, and let your thoughts wander. Reflect on your day and how you managed to be grateful and kind to others.

Once you feel you have gained better-thought clarity, you can better express your thoughts and views. We suggest that after having your moment of reflection, you can write your daily journal entry to have rich insights into your cognition. Journal writing is a wonderful activity and when done for cultivating gratitude, it becomes more effective. The benefits of gratitude journal writing are endless and kids can enjoy all of them just by committing 15-20 minutes of their day to this activity. Children can either do journaling in the morning to plan out their whole day better or at night to reflect on their whole day and achieve a greater insight into it.
